Make your computer run faster

When you first buy your computer, you’ll be happy to see your system perform swiftly. But as days go by, you also observe the performance speed gradually decreasing. It may not be down and out, but the speed with which it was performing the tasks earlier isn’t there now. It can happen as we install loads of applications which we get from friends, family and relatives which will have an impact on the execution time of your computer.
Now there are ways to keep your system retain its previous performance (ing) ability.
- Never run programs automatically when the system boots. If you observe your system booting slower than before, it could be because there are programs that are also being loaded along with your system boot-up. If you are using Windows XP you can try editing your system configuration to disallow automatic program running. To do this, go to Start –> Run and type msconfig and go to startup tab on the top row. You can disable programs that aren’t required to be loaded automatically and save the setting. If re-booting is required, follow the command.
- There may be malware, spyware or other kinds of viruses in some applications you’ve installed making your computer run slower. Your best bet in finding those spies is to run a full computer scan with any good Virus scanner (AVG might be a good option). Since full computer scanning takes hours of time, you can have a good sleep before it finishes. Remember to have up to date patches installed in your Virus checking tool before starting the scan.
- Windows sometimes places files of same program/application in multiple drives. You can avoid this by Defragmenting the entire hard drive. You can download a tool called ‘Auslogics boost speed’ to defragment your hard drive. Remember to have power backup before starting the process just in case the power goes. If the situation is shaky, its better to defer the idea.
- With the Auslogics Boost speed application that I mentioned, you can also check the entire system for errors in registry with just one click. This may clear up some issues.
- If none of the above ideas helped, its time to increase your RAM and other hardware. A 1GB RAM (2GB would be even faster) is recommended for a P4 processor. Also try increasing your hard drive memory.

Thanks for the tip!
