YouTube application for Nokia mobile

by Sriraj on January 2, 2010

If you are living in this Web 2.0 generation it’s obvious that you run across YouTube at some point or the other. Or if you are a person like me who’d like to see videos to learn stuff rather than reading text, there’s no better place to be than on YouTube.

Since YouTube is full of videos, it’s quite difficult for you to access them from your mobile. Fortunately, YouTube has developed a dedicated application for Nokia Mobiles (devices running on S60 platform) which doesn’t load all things at a time.

Mind you, other top end phones like Android’s or iPhone’s already have dedicated App’s for YouTube. Now it’s turn for the Nokia mobiles.

The installation is simple, just visit this link on Ovi Store from your Nokia mobile (You’ll need to sign into your Ovi Store account, if you’re not already signed in) and start the automatic download and installation process.

The application is around 1mb. So make sure that you either have a data plan for your mobile or are using a wi-fi to access the content.

So how’s the UI?

The user interface is simple and fast with columns for featured video, top rated videos, Most viewed videos and Most recent videos. Click on any link and you’ll have horizontally flowing line of thumbnails which you can move left or right (by your fingers if your device has touch screen) using your mobiles joystick. Select any video and it grows large to fit your screen size.

Since this is still in development stage, you may come across few bummers (which is said by YouTube itself anyway). If there are any new stable updates, you’ll get an update to install the update.

So, happy Tubing Nokia fellas’.

Hi there, thanks for your post. I bought a new Nokia 5320 mobile. The Youtube application that was already there was streaming videos thru Real Player which was amazingly very fast. Now i updated a new version of the Application and to the utter dismay it is very slow. Is there anyway i can revert back or get the old YouTube application?

please help yar… :-(

I don’t see any SVN repository in the Ovi Store. Hence you cannot go back to an older version.
Did 5320 come with YouTube App pre installed? In such case you can restore every thing to factory settings (after taking a back up of all files) and you’d have your older and faster version of YouTube.

I just had it installed yesterday on my 5800 yesterday and thought to see if there are any one who thinks like me about this App.
It’s just great. I’ve also move this onto my homescreen as a shortcut :)
