Accessing Yahoo mail on your mobile – Any easy way?

October 5, 2009 · Article by Sriraj · 4 Comments

How long has it been since you ever used Yahoo mail?

For me, it’s been years. And it is the same with any Yahoo product too; except for a few Technology and Internet related portals.

For email purposes I remember getting an invitation from one of my friend to join Gmail (Gmail used to be only through invite back in those days) and ever since then, it’s only been Gmail for its fantastic features.

Off late, I heard the news that Yahoo was changing its homepage and so spent some time checking at its new features, but colourful isn’t always cheerful.

I forgot about Yahoo since then until I saw a full front page Advertisement of Yahoo published in many leading news papers.

Yahoo-india-Ad It was then I remembered that I had a few email accounts in Yahoo too and thought  of checking for any useful mails (normally unlike Gmail, Spam would occupy most  part of my Inbox in Yahoo). I did find some legitimate emails directed at me but  since my memory is so short and I was sure that I’ll forget about Yahoo in a few  days. So I decided to check if there is any POP or IMAP access for Yahoo like Gmail.

No luck sadly. From what I found, you can only access Yahoo mail (Optimized for  mobile of course) in your mobile through a browser. And the Options provided in  Yahoo mail were useless to be straight. I can spend a whole day tweaking Gmail  options to suit my needs but there are no options to change in Yahoo except those Signature and Vacation message stuff.

It was simple task of two clicks in my S60 device for settings up the mail box for Gmail. For Yahoo, you need to visit this page and type in your mobile number to receive the URL.

Now it’s a simple task of visiting the link and signing with your username and password.

The look of the inbox is good though, except for those banner Ads haunting me even in mobile.

Whenever I login to Yahoo! Mail, I atleast take 5 minutes (Or even more!) to locate “Compose Mail or Write Mail” (Whatever!) option! Darn! their mail page is so clumpsy dude :-(

Where is the option for Gmail in this new webpage and is it just a feed of Gmail or complete application?

Can’t find it too. Looks to be desperate situation for Yahoo to counter Google by allowing Gmail to be accessed from a Yahoo Page. It is a bit odd too thinking who benefits more in this, Yahoo or Google…..

Lol, theres nothing new in that portal of Yahoo. simply used more Ajax for faster browsing.
