Today is a big day for the Internet community as a major incident has taken place. The much talked about ‘Deal between Microsoft and Yahoo’ is finally a success.
Here’s the official press release from Microsoft about the Deal.

To keep it short, here is a snippet of what the deal is all about:
- This agreement is exclusively for 10 yeas.
- Microsoft will power the Yahoo search with its very owned Bing technology. So from now any (or after the changes have been made), every search made on a Yahoo site is powered by Bing algorithm.
- Yahoo will look after the sales of the search ads with AdCenter being the technology behind the price setting of Ads.
- Microsoft will compensate Yahoo through a revenue sharing agreement on traffic generated on Yahoo’s Network.
As soon as the reports broke out, major websites started covering the news and put on their views about the deal. Here is what some of them have to say:

But what does this really mean to Google? We’ll have to wait until a Google style blog post turns up in one of their Official blogs. Sure Bing will see a sudden surge in its Global reach since all Yahoo users will now begin to use Bing search but does that have enough in it to take on the big G? I can’t see it happening anywhere in the near future.
Google still commands a good 70% of the world’s web search which is three times more than what Bing and Yahoo put together.
When I saw Bing turn up, I really liked the move to take on Google by Microsoft alone. Although Google remained the number 1 search engine for me, I stumbled upon Bing quite often as a token to its hard work.
But now I really feel that I should use Google alone for my searches daily. Now it’ll be the only search engine that I’ll use.
