Kontera contentlink Ads payment and performance review

Kontera contentlink Vs Google Adsense, Kontera ads and Adsense on same page?

Having a first look a Kontera any new publisher thinks, hell!! why didn’t I come across this earlier? It works on a CPC basis and doesn’t occupy any space on your site unlike other content based Ad networks. I’m no different and especially after seeing this experiment by Dave Taylor, I waited no longer and applied as a publisher.

Kontera Content links adsI received the acceptance email the next day and successfully implemented Kontera tags on my blog.

But since then my experiences with Kontera were exactly opposite to what I thought it would be. It works on a CPC basis alright but the cost per click values I see in the reports are ridiculously low. Some clicks even report less than a cent something like 0.005 $.

I contacted their support team asking whether this is happening to all publishers or is there some thing wrong from my side. A response came in the next day saying that they have made some changes on their end and there would be a change in earnings sooner and asked me to wait for a week before contacting again. I waited patiently for about 10 days to pass by and guess what happened. Forget increase in earnings, the eCPM was significantly lower than it was before. It was bizarre and I completely removed Kontera scripts from this blog.

If you’ve seen the reports that Dave posted here, you would surely get the feeling that Kontera may well substitute Adsense by looking at that eCPM. But let me tell you that it cannot. I’m sure that Kontera pumped all the highest paying ads to Dave website (Having known the fact that Dave was about to conduct this experiment) and show off its strength.

You have absolutely no control on ads that appear in your website. I sometimes see blogspot.com sub-domain ads appear and I din’t know where to hide my head that time. For each and every small change that you need to make, you have to write to the support team and they will make those changes (if they can).

Another setback in using Kontera tags is that because of its huge script takes a long time to execute and hence significantly increases the page load time. As a result of which the Adsense tags that I had on my site took a longer time to load than usual and hence the CTR decreased substancially. There was a clear difference in the CTR which was at 4.5-5% before I used Kontera which came down to 2-2.5% after installing Kontera script.

And with its 100$ threshold it would easily take few months to get my check and I didn’t have the patience to wait that long.

If there was one thing that was good about Kontera, it should be their support team. When ever I ask any question, I used to see a reply from the support team the very next day. Keep aside whether my question is answered or not, a reply used to come for sure in a day or two :D

So you can pretty well guess whether I recommend Kontera or not. Any way try it once, and you may well have different experiances. If so, come here and teach me a lesson.

  1. I had the same experience with Kontera than I switched over to Infolinks and man they pay me 4 times more!!! Infolinks is much friendlier provider that never slow down your computer and expose your visitors to relatively relevant ads.

  2. Hello Sriraj,

My name is Vered and I’m from Kontera. First off, thanks for your feedback, we value your opinion and I’d therefore like to take a moment to respond to a few of your concerns.

In regards to your reports of slow loading and interference with the loading of other ads, Kontera recommends implementing the tag at the very end of your HTML code (before the closing tag). When implemented correctly, ContentLink ads will load last allowing all other text, graphics, and other ad sources to load first.

In regards to your concerns with making seemingly simple changes through Support: As you know there are many optimization tweaks that can be performed on a publisher’s end through the Kontera Pub Center and the various publisher tools we provide. We constantly work to provide publishers with additional tools and options and there are many new developments down the road. All this said, I’m glad to hear that you had good experiences with our Support Team.

Kontera ContentLink ads are an effective way to monetize a webpage’s “real-estate” that does not normally see advertisements from other providers. Our advertising is not designed to replace Adsense or the like, but instead, holds the purpose of serving as a great supplement.

Finally, as I’m sure you’ll agree many dynamic factors influence a successful online advertising venture, and we’d be glad to work with you in the future should you choose to re-establish your partnership with us. For now, I thank you for your review, and will be glad to address any further issues you’d like to raise if you’ll contact me by email.

    All the best,
    Vered
