Google entering the OS arena, Microsoft, be on your toes

by Sriraj on July 8, 2009

The only big difference between Microsoft Corporation and Google is the availability of Windows OS from Microsoft and the absence of such product from Google. Apart from that, there are many similarities between the two, both are Search engines (But we know who is the champ?), both have web applications, both provide email system, Blogs etc. Coming to the fast increasing Mobile world, Microsoft has the Windows Mobile OS and Google recently made its foray by taking over Android into its own.

Now what?

google-chrome-OSGoogle has officially announced today that it is entering into PC’s OS developing niche. It is called as the ‘Google Chrome OS‘ which of course is named after its own famous Chrome Web browser.

Google also said that this OS is completely different from its Android Platform but users may see some similarities between the two in some instances.

As of course as any Google product, Chrome OS will be an open-source, light weight whose main aim was to improve the speed and user Interface. But Goog has also made a note that this OS is initially being only targeted at Netbook and later will be expanded to other types of computers. On of the biggest tasks for Google in developing this OS will be develop it in such a manner that it requires no Anti-viruses or Anti-malwares to keep the system clean (Since they said they’re thinking about this).

And the reasons they gave for their entrance into this field is very similar to Microsoft when they recently introduced their new Search Engine Bing.

Visit this official post and take a look at the 6th paragraph. Exchange the words Computers and browsers with Search engine and you’ll easily find the similarity (that is if you read the Bing introduction story from Microsoft)

So, if Microsoft can stuff many Windows products and IE into its OS, can’t Google do it now with its Chrome OS?

And if you are so eager to put your hands on this new OS, you may well have to wait till the second half of 2010.
