Gmail now available offline too

January 31, 2009 · Article by Sriraj · Leave a Comment

Gmail, Arguably the best web based free email available around is now even available offline.

To enable the Gmail offline, go to the settings tab present at the top right corner of your Gmail account and then click the labs tab. Select the enable button next to Offline Gmail. Save the setting. Now you’ll see a “offline0.1″ adjacent to the settings tab.

When you click on the ‘offline’ link, Gmail uses gears to store a cache of your mails. Now even if you’re disconnected from  your network, you still can read mails, label them, star them and do anything that you ought to do like in a normal connection.

What’s even more good is that, when you compose a mail in the offline mode, your mail is temporarily stored in your outbox and will be immediately sent to the recepient the next time Gmail goes online.

This is still in the experimental mode and should you run into any jinks, please take time to report the error to Gmail. So, go activate your Gmail offline now.
