I was browsing for a nice Internet plan for my laptop on the Tata Indicom Broadband website when I found a nice 250×250 banner on the right side bar. It reads, ’4 great broadband offers, More 4 Sure, Click here’. It’s very rare that a banner attracts my attention and this one is one of those very few that did. I clicked on that banner Ad and landed in a website that looked fantastic. I reminded me the nicely designed Tata Docomo website that I visited a few days ago.
Every thing was so attractively placed and yet you need to dig into the site to find out more details about the tariff plans.
The all-time and everyone’s favourite ‘Free’ Stuff was placed on the home page which lists Free Zenith laptop, Free LinkSys Wi-Fi router, 4 months free broadband and 1 month free broadband.
It is followed by a lead which I’m sure will be very busy once Tata Indicom launches the Ad campaign for these Broadband plans.
That is until you click on the tariff plan that is placed in the top navigation. Once you see the prices, all your excitement may be brought down to ‘zero levels’.
There are 4 plans namely, Flash plans, Infinity plans, Power flash plans and Lightening plan. Infinity plan has two siblings as Infinity Symmetrical and Infinity Plus plans.
Tata Indicom Broadband 2.0 Flash plans
As I can see, the flash plan is the basic plan, i.e the cheapest plan of all. It comes with unlimited usage, and at speeds of 256kbps, 384kbps and 1.5mbps.
But a speed of 1.5mbps is default in all plans on Sundays and every day from 10pm to 8am.
Guess the price of this unlimited 256kbps plans?
It’s Rs.1,100, and there’s an ONLY mentioned beside it.
The 384kbps plan costs Rs.1200 monthly and it’s Rs.2750 for the 1.5mbps plan.
Remember the free offers that I said a while ago?
Those offers come in here when you pay advance charges for 36 months, you get a free laptop. If you pay advance charges for 12 months, you get 4 months free broadband. For 6 months advance, you get a free LinkSys Router and 1 month free broadband for 4 months advance payment of charges.
The are also some bundled value added services that you could get with these plans like a free domain name, 3 business mail id’s and an Anti-virus Software.
So it is very evident from this offers that the main target is the corporates and not the household residents.
Lightning plans
The lightning 10mbps plan offers 10GB usage limit at a speed of 10mbps at a price of Rs.1950 per month.
The lightning 100mbps plan also offers 10GB usage limit at 100mbps at Rs.3500 monthly.
And no surprise that these plans are only available in select metros as it is virtually impossible to bring such high speeds to every other place. At present or may be for some time to come, these plans are only available in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune and Ahmedabad.

The price is not exorbitant considering the speed of 10 MPBS that TATA is offering.
And of course, with TATA you can expect the speed to be the same that is being advertised.

Offers are good…But the rates are BullS**t and not for a normal user. so I Quit…
