What can you expect in 2012? No, the world doesn’t end but Mukesh Ambani is aiming to bring 4G to India. It’s already known that RIL has acquired Infotel, which won pan-India BWA license in the auction conducted last year alongside 3G licenses. Work is currently in progress setting up the infrastructure for the high speed wireless network in partnership with Nokia-Siemens and other network specialists.
In the first quarter of 2012 (trail runs could begin as early as December 2011), you will see 4G Broadband (LTE variant) waves floating around your metro city and by the middle of 2012; those will reach other smaller towns and 2 nd tier cities in the country.
While there are already high speed wireless services available in the country offering speeds of up to 28Mbps based on 3G technology, 4G will offer several times more speed than 3G. Guess how much?
Speeds can reach up to 100Mbps download (and up to 50Mbps upload).
Guess what Mukesh Ambani also has in his mind? The tariffs of 4G are reportedly said to be cheaper than 3G. So, get ready for another ‘Monsoon Hungama’ that rocked the country in 2003.
Well, it’s not over yet.
RIL also wants to manufacture (branded) its own 4G data cards (sourced from OEM’s of course) and also introduce tablets with price as less as Rs.3000.
