May be it’s a little late, but this move was surely coming. It was very disheartening to see people (who have 3G phones) still using 2G data plans even after a year of 3G service launch. Airtel, the country’s largest wireless carrier has today reduced the tariff of its 3G plans, to somewhat reasonable levels. Only time will tell whether even these new rates please public or not. Regardless of other people, airtel has surely pleased me already.
I am currently subscribed to the ultra famous (sigh) Rs.98 2G pack which gives 1GB data. I have free wifi access at home and at office, so the only time I’m required to use mobile data is when I’m travelling and on weekends when I’m away from both of these places. Although I have 1GB of data to spare, I hardly manage to cross 400MB every month.
At the launch of airtel’s 3G service, I was staring at Rs.450 a month plan that gives 600MB of data. Now, I just have to look at Rs.99 a month plan for 300 MB (coupled with a slightly conservative use) or a Rs.250 a month plan for 1GB data, which is far more than what I need.
You certainly have added one customer already Airtel !!
Tariff’s of other standard plans are as follows:
Rs.450: 2GB
Rs.750: 4GB
Rs.1500: 10GB
And of course, there is this Flexishield plan.
