Multiple Google accounts, same time, same browser – May soon be possible

by Eric on July 19, 2010

I’m sure most of you faced this situation many times before. You’re logged in to one of your Google account and are using Gmail product. But you wanted to look if there are any new articles that hit your Google reader, which is on a different Google account. What will you do? Simple, open a different browser and open Google reader. Since opening Google reader from the same browser in which you are signed into your Gmail account will open Google reader with that same Google account, which in most cases will not contain any subscriptions to read.

Note that you can however use in the invisible mode features, such as Private Browsing in Firefox or Incognito mode in Chrome to sign into another account using the same browser.

Google Operating System, an Unofficial blog that tracks all the latest developments at Google reports that Google is testing Multiple Accounts sign in feature (from the browser, at the same time of course).

Initially, Multiple Sign in only supports few Google products such as Calendar, Code, Docs, Gmail, Reader and Sites.

If this comes alive, then you’ll no longer have to take the trouble of opening a new browser to sign in to a different Google account.

Why would Goog want you to have multiple accounts?

Eric

Just because we can, perhaps?

I’m surprised that Google didn’t think of this till now. Hell, every time I open gmail.com when I’m logged in to orkut, it takes me to my old gmail account that i no longer use.
The only way hence is to log out of Orkut, since my office systems only have firefox browsers..rule

I have 8 Google accounts and I will find this very helpful if it happens soon
