Free Facebook access to all Airtel customers

by Eric on July 6, 2010

Good news for Airtel customers and arduous fans of Facebook. Now you can access Facebook from your Airtel mobile without any Data charges till August 31, 2010 as a part of agreement made between the two managements.

The site will initially be available in English and Hindi languages till July 15 and from then, you may also be able to access Facebook in other regional languages like Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, Punjabi and Malayalam.

Airtel users who already have GPRS or Mobile Internet through ‘Mobile Office’ active in their handsets can directly visit facebook.com and access the Social Networking site without any extra charges, till August 31. Users who want to use GPRS for the first time would need to send an SMS as facebook to 54321 (toll free) to receive the GPRS settings. You would then want to save those settings as default GPRS settings. ‘This would be useful to the vast network of 130 million subscribers’, Airtel said.

This is not the first time that Facebook is being allowed to surf for free. Reliance and Videocon has already done that by making use of ‘facebook zero’. To get free access to facebook without any data charges, users of Videocon and Reliance network can go to 0.facebook.com.
