Who cares if Apple releases its iSlate (or what ever) this year or not, we already have our tablet, a desi ‘Smart Pad’. A brain child of Rohan Sravan, an IIT Kharaghpur graduate along with three colleagues, Rohit rathi, Devanshu Agarwal and Sachin Rohan. The technical support has been provided by BVRIT Innovation centre in Hyderabad which is an extension of the BVRIT College in Medak district (my college) and National Institute of Design (Research and Development campus in Bangalore)
Talks are on with a Taiwan company for hardware supply for bulk manufacture.
Features and Specifications
- The Smart Pad can be used as an ebook reader, a mobile phone, a gaming console and of course as a touch notebook.
- The screen is 10inch wide.
The Smart Pad designed by Rohan Sravan and colleagues
- The Smart Pad is powered by a 4 GB RAM and a 4GHz processor (twice as fast as any average notebook present today).
- It is powered by a 3 mega Pixel auto focus camera
- While using it as an epaper, this Smart Pad switches into a ‘Paper display’ mode which decreases the light intensity, virtually giving you the experience of reading a normal newspaper. Also, the power consumption in this mode is only a tenth of the normal mode.
- This Smart Pad uses the ARM architecture (Advanced RISC Machine) seen in majority of mobile devices today.
And guess the price of the device with all these features?
While the exact price is not yet known, we do know that it is being priced below Rs.14000 (equivalent to 304 USD).
In what could be a bitter pill for Apple, if it doesn’t bring a physical shape to its iSlate soon, the Smart Pad will be first launched in America (by May 2010) followed by India.
If you guys in America want to get a glimpse of this, visit the ‘Consumer electronics show’ (CES) in Las Vegas on January 7-10, 2010.

Great job!!!!!
1) Stunning 4GB RAM & ARM 4GHz processor.
2) 3MP camera is ok with auto focus but If you upgrade it face detection and LED flash and a second camera for video calling Sounds Great.

Let your Dream project be Mega success. If you need any suggestions I can give, though i’m not a gadget guru, I can give suggestions like wat students of my age(20) can be needed to have.
I hope that i’m the first person to buy your product. Will you handover me the first “Smart pad” to me
Well we have to look to west to sell though
Hi,
I think if the screen size can be in more options then it will be great like 15 and 17 so that it can cater to guys like me who need big screen sizes for our graphic design needs.
Cheers,
Vish
That doesn’t serve the purpose of ‘Tablet’ I suppose. The Smaller, the better.
Thank you friends. Once again we proved that we can compete globally. Let us try to establish an Indian MIT.
To Be Honest, I dont have Any Idea what is iSlate or Tablet!
