After Kolkata, it’s now Bangalore’s turn to experience Airtel’s 4G service. The telecom firm has officially launched the TD-LTE service in the capital city of Karnataka yesterday. While it was Nokia Siemens Network that built the 4G infrastructure in Kolkata, it is Huawei that developed the same in Bangalore. Airtel has acquired licenses in 4 circles to roll out its 4G service; Kolkata, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Punjab. Obviously, Bangalore is just one city in Karnataka and Airtel will eventually roll out 4G to other parts of Karnataka and also in the remaining 2 circles as well.
As far as the tariff plans go, there is a new plan added (which applies to Kolkata as well), to the 3 plans announced earlier. This is a high end plan, called ‘Break free ultimate’ which provides 30 GB of free 4G data for Rs.2999 a month. Like before, the plan remains Unlimited but the speed will be drastically reduced to 128 kbps after 30GB usage.
Prices are certainly on the higher side and it seems airtel to acknowledges it. So, in an effort to gain customers, it introduces something called as ‘Cash back offer’. This is as simple as providing discount on monthly bill for those who will commit to a certain period.
For example, if you are on Rs.999 plan (6 GB data), you will get a discount (cash back) of Rs.167 every month, if you commit yourself to the 4G service for 6 months. For Rs.1399 plan (9 GB data), you get cash back of Rs.466 every month if you commit for 6 months. Similarly for Rs.1999 plan (18 GB data); the cash back is Rs.333 every month for a commitment period of 24 months. And for the newly introduced plan, the Rs.2999 one, the cash back is Rs.667 for a commitment of 12 months.
If you choose any one of the two higher end packages (Rs.1999 of Rs.2999), you will also get a free 4G dongle/data card (this also requires the same commitment as described above).
