If you are on Airtel and waiting for 3G to be launched in your circle, you might want to keep a check on Airtel’s 3G page since the roll out has been rapid of late. Before the 3G services launch in your city, most of you would get a generic SMS from airtel telling that the services will be launched in so and so date.
Airtel users in Hyderabad also got similar SMS in third week of March saying that 3G will be launch by the month end. They were asked to send an SMS as 3Gyes to 52212, to get their 3G activated as soon as the service launches. But apparently, it seems as though that is not happening. The 3G services were launched few days ago in Hyderabad and yet they were not activated to users who sent the above SMS.
If you too are in a similar situation, here’s what you should be doing:
Send an SMS as 3G to 121 (If 3G is not available in your area, you’d get generic reply about 3G and 3G Help)
You’ll get a reply asking you to confirm your 3G activation by replying with 1
Your 3G services will then be activated instantly (or at most with in 4 hours).
But this is not all done. The G or E sign on your phone will not turn to 3G or H automatically. You will have to go to your connectivity settings and change it exclusively to 3G mode (this terminology varies in different phones, so change it accordingly) and scan for networks. When you see Airtel, just select it and you’ll be registered on the network.
Now, you’ll either see a 3G or H sign on your phone (H is faster than 3G) and if you want, you can go back to Dual mode (don’t worry, you will still be in 3G network).
Apparently, the 3G network is using the same Mobile Office APN and hence if you have any data pack activated, like the Rs.98 plan, your balance will be deducted from that account, at least for now.
