When it comes to receiving challan for traffic violations, Hyderabad comes ahead than other cities. But, the traffic police’ here are really the least bothered people. They will only be strict when they get instructions from their Higher Authorities. That instruction (due to a mention in the press) remains in full force for few days and after that, it’s again back to normal, both for traffic police and for commuters. It’s like rules will only be implemented in few seasons and these seasons arrive when the department faces scarcity of funds.
But these days, I’m observing a new trend with our traffic cops. Most of them, even the junior most guys, seem to hold a digital camera to quickly take a picture of you driving without helmet or car driver driving without putting his seat belt. Not only in big junctions like the one’s at Khairatabad or Nampally, traffic police with small digital cams are seen even in smaller circles, controlling traffic with one hand while quickly snapping a pic with the other hand.
So don’t be surprised if you receive a photo of yourself, stylishly sitting on your bike, through post containing a challan. That photo serves as a legitimate proof of you not following certain traffic guideline. You can check Hyderabad traffic challan status, if you think you’ve been snapped by a police.
