Here is one more addition to our series of posts on PPF account. Let’s say you have a normal banking account in a SBI Branch (or its associate banks or any other bank that is eligible to open a PPF account). And you have Internet banking enabled to that account so that you could manage your entire account online.
Now, if you’ve opened a PPF account in the same branch where you have a Internet Banking enabled SBI account, your new PPF account will be added to your Internet Banking account so that you could check balance from time to time and do PPF Online transfers.
Note that PPF account is only provided by certain branches of a Bank. So, if you’ve opened a PPF account in a branch where you do not have a prior banking account, it is recommended to open a savings account with internet banking so that your PPF account balance will be available to you all the time.

I have requested a printed statement of my PPF account at the SBI branch where I hold the account. The person responsible said that he cannot provide me a printed statement with a bank stamp and sign because it is a government account. Is that true? I find it very difficult to digest that I cannot have my own PPF account statement. Please provide your insights on this.
If you maintain PPF Passbook you can have it updated at the bank. They will/should do this. I’m not sure about the statement with bank seal. I think they have no issue with just giving you a printout but they don’t stamp on it; is that correct? I will ask someone about this.
If you have Internet Banking and can see PPF account in it, you can print a statement yourself (there will be your name, bank address and transactions in the statement).
Dear Sai,
Thanks for your prompt reply. Yes I do maintain a PPF passbook. I requested specifically for an account statement of my PPF account as I had to file in that as a legal document in tax returns dispute case. So, the seal and sign is paramount for me as the document won’t stand any legal importance without it. I was denied the same by the bank saying that “PPF is a government account and they cannot give its statement to me” I find this as a gross violation of my rights as a customer. How can someone deny me a statement of my own account? on what grounds? I think bank is feeding me the false information for whatever motive they have. What is your opinion about this whole thing? I could not figure out what is the big deal behind stamping and signing. They are ready to give transaction details (Which is also on my passbook) but not a signed and sealed account statement. (btw I had received the same from the same bank and the same branch last year, I don’t know if there is any policy change from government over this within last one year).
I don’t know whether not providing a stamped statement is within their rights or not, but yes PPF is a Government managed fund, and these banks or post offices just act as Gateways for us to invest in that fund. The interest we earn from PPF is given by the Government. I guess the banks do not want to take any responsibility in case there are any mistakes in the account.
Just tell the officer that you received a signed statement last year and if he says we’re not allowed to give it now, ask why (the rule)? I will inquire in the mean time.
How to check the PPF Statement online Please inform.
Did you read the post? In addition to the post, in case you do not see your PPF account in your Internet Banking account, you should request the bank to link the PPF account to that Internet user ID. You can then check your balance or download statements whenever you need.

Where do you have the account?
Dear Admin
After 4 months fight with SBI branch, they given the read only access for PPF account. Sorry for my previous comments. Many times I contacted branch manager he said it is not possible. At last he linked account after showing your blog and screen shot of friends account.
Yeah, its just a read only access. To withdraw from PPF account, you have to visit the branch, fill the form and then withdraw the possible amount.
Glad you got it working.
Hello raj ,
May I know what is the procedure to link the accounts?
What was the conversation with the bank manager?
Hi, I’m Sai.
You need to visit the branch in which you have a savings and ppf account and ask the staff to link both account.
Since this is not a regular work done by the staff (rarely does anyone ask for this, if any), you may need to talk to the manager. As from Raj’s experience, they may say its not possible.
I personally had no problems with my branch. But for smaller branches, maintaining online accounts is an additional burden, so they completely try to avoid it.
Thanks sai!! I’ll try & give you the feedback.
Hello Sai,
I added my PPF account as a third party beneficiary account through online . In 4 hours, it got activated & it shows my PPF balance now.
But I didn’t requested branch manager to link it.
It got activated automatically by simply adding as a third party beneficiary account.
Really? Sounds very simple then.
But how does beneficiary account show its balance?
For example, if you add my savings account as a third party beneficiary, you don’t get see my balance right.
So I think there is already a link between your savings account and PPF account. May be the present software does it automatically.
how to check my ppf account balance
I want to know balance of my PPF a/c. Every year investing.
My SBI PPF A/c no is: 302983—— Please let me know it’s balance
Can I get transfer my SBI PPF account anywhere or can I deposit from any city?
We can not check PPF account through online, But you can transfer amount from sbi SB account to SBI PPF account. According to SBI manager Surathkal, Karnataka ppf is government program, It can not link to SB account. I don’t why the author is saying this false story. If it is possible , tell me the branch.
Well, SBI and its Associates DO belong to the Government and I have my own PPF account linked to SBI Savings account (both in same branch). I can see my PPF a/c through Onlinesbi.com. Tell me if you need a screen shot of the same, no problem.
Please send my PPF account balance.
