Good news for EPF account holders. Seeing the difficulties holders are facing in knowing their balance, EPFO has taken efforts in bringing their accounts online. Now you can check your EPF account balance online by visiting this page. This service is made available from 1 July 2011. Note that the provision to check your EPF transfer or withdrawal status has been in existence from long before.
Also note that the PF account balance can only be know if your PF account belongs to NCR region (Delhi North and South, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Karnal, Laxmi Nagar) or Bangalore at present. Data from other PF offices will soon be made available online and users can then check their balances.
All you have to do is visit the link given above and select your PF office. Input your PF number and your mobile number. Balance and other details will then be sent to the given number.
One can clearly figure out the security issue here since any one who knows your PF number (such as your co-workers etc) can get to know your balance by simply entering your PF number and their mobile number. Details would simply go to their mobile number. EPFO should take care in this regard and see that messages will only be sent to registered mobile numbers.
