Having an LIC of India policy, it is important that you keep your information up to date in the records of LIC database so that all the benefits that your policy should receive are properly delivered by the LIC. One such thing is the need to keep your address updated in the records of LIC, in case you move to a new home with a different address.
If you do not do this, all the premium intimation letters that LIC send you whenever its time, will not reach you and similar is the case when any policy reaches its maturity when you receive the discharge certificate etc. Apart from changing the address of your house, you can also request to change the address of the serving branch. Suppose, you moved from Mumbai to Hyderabad, hence you can request your policy to be transferred from Mumbai branch to Hyderabad branch for easier correspondence.
How to change LIC Policy address?
In the letter, be sure to include your Name, Policy number, Old and New Address and contact number (just in case).
If you have registered for online services at LIC customer portal, you may be able to do it form there itself. Just login to your account and at the right side you will find ‘Address Change’ link under customer services link. Click on that link to update your address. However, you may not be able to do this, if your enrolled policy is not validated or the date of birth information given in online profile is not matching with that given while opening the policy.
Update: Very recently, as one of our commenter pointed out below, the address change link is no longer available. So yo have to visit your LIC Branch to update your information (If you still continue to see that feature, it means that they’ve added back that option)
LIC Policy SMS Alerts
In the same Online account that I mentioned a while ago, you also have a service called ‘Subscribe to SMS’, by opting to which, you will receive SMS alerts regarding you policy, premium due date, maturity information etc. This service is provided for free by LIC.
Alternatively, if you have registered LIC as a biller in your net banking, your bank will send an SMS whenever a policy is due for payment.
Also, you can use LIC’s SMS keyword option, to get specific information as and when needed. For example, you can use certain keywords as follows:
ASKLIC<space>your policy number<space>PREMIUM and send it to 56677. This would return the premium amount due by you.
Other available keywords are, REVIVAL, LOAN, BONUS, NOM.
