If you take IELTS via British Council, you might be interested to know that British Council offers scholarships worth Rs.3 lakhs each for 8 top performers each year. To be eligible for the scholarship, you must secure at least 6.5 score in IELTS and be in a position to produce the acceptance/admission letter from any foreign Institute (PG course) accepting IELTS score by 13 August 2011 (cut off date for 2011).
If you have applied to an Institute and are waiting for the acceptance, you can apply for the scholarship, but the above deadline applies. Last date to make applications (application form can be downloaded from British Council) this year is 30 July 2011.
But, strictly, you can’t apply for the scholarship if you have just applied for IELTS and are yet to take the test.
Selection of candidates will be made by a panel appointed by British Council and may involve an Interview and/or presentation.
The scholarship amount will directly be forwarded to the Institute where you secured admission and will cover your tuition fee only. In case you already secured free admission, the scholarship will not be applicable to you.
As said earlier, last date to receive applications is 30 July 2011
About 40 applicants will be shortlisted will be informed by email by 10 August also giving you the topic for your presentation. Then a final list of 8 applicants will be made and be awarded the scholarship.
