The Election Commission of India has finally issued a notification for the schedule of General elections in Assam state, since the current Government rule will expire on 28 May 2011. It has been decided that the elections in the state will be held in 2 phases, 62 constituencies in the first phase and 64 in the second. Polling will be on 4 April 2011 for first phase and 11 April 2011 for Second phase. Counting of votes polled (in both phases) is scheduled for 13 May 2011. The polling booths (or stations) will be open from 7AM till 3PM on each of those two days. However, those who are in line by 3 PM will get a chance to vote, even though their turn may come after 3pm.
Out of 126 constituencies, 8 are reserved for SC’s and 16 for ST’s.
A total of 1,81,45,914 people are found to be eligible for voting (voters). This list is final and has been published on 5 January 2011, with a cut-off date of 1 January 2011. Similarly, a total of 23813 Polling stations have been identified to facilitate voting.
If you have applied for inclusion in the electoral rolls very recently, your name may not be available in the electoral rolls. To check if your name is present in the final electoral rolls, please visit this page.
If you find it difficult to search using Constituency, you can search by your name using the link present in the same page.
You can also find the polling station allotted to you in that list.
Since in Assam there are no Electoral Photo Identity cards (EPIC) issued by EC, a media announcement will be made shortly with the list of ID cards that will be accepted during the polling. Generally, any Government issued card with your photo and address will be a valid one, like passport, driving license, ration card etc.
