Way2SMS is a popular online portal to send free SMS to any mobile number in India. Till now, you might have only sent the free SMS in English but it is possible that you can also send free SMS in Hindi or any other popular Indian language via Way2SMS portal. The only caveat is that the receiving mobile should support Indic (Indian) language. Otherwise, the SMS would just appear as some garbage letters, numbers and symbols.
Type in Hindi on Way2SMS
Login to Way2SMS portal and go to appropriate place to send SMS, as you normally would do. While Way2SMS doesn’t provide user interface to type in Hindi, you can make use of any transliteration services that are present online for free, for example you could use this Google tool.
Once you are at the transliteration page, make sure the language in which you want to send SMS is selected. Start typing in English and after each <space>, the English word will automatically be converted to the language of your choice.
Once done, copy the entire note (ctrl+a and ctrl+c) and paste (ctrl+v) it in the Way2SMS text box. Make sure that the 140 character count limit is followed.
Enter you’re the recipient’s mobile number and click on send.
Now, your friend should receive the SMS in your preferred language, should his mobile support that language. In case your friends’ mobile doesn’t support Hindi (or any language other than English), then he’ll see boxes or garbage characters.
Update: You can also type in Hindi directly from your mobile phone. Most feature phones with physical keyboard have native support for Hindi or other regional languages. In case you have an Android phone, you can download ‘Google Hindi Input’ from the store and start typing in English to automatically translate it to Hindi after which you can send your message.
Be sure to select Google Hindi Input as your Default keyboard in Settings (you can disable translation to hindi while typing, if you want).
