SMS charges for New Year wishes

It’s very common for people to send their New year wishes through SMS on 30 December itself (telling, ‘Hey look! I’m the first one to wish you’, lol). December 30 is certainly not the end of the year, but people do this, to save on their SMS costs. Most people would have some kind of SMS offer which will not be valid in case of special days, called Black out days. Unfortunately, the New Year eve on 31 December and the New Year Day on 1 January, come under these Black out days. So all your free sms or 1ps/sms plans won’t work on these two days but you’ll instead be charged according to the base plan. While this differs from Operator to Operator but in most cases, normal charges are as follows:

Local SMS (any network): Rs.1

National SMS (any network): Rs.1.50

International SMS: Rs.5 per SMS.

Operators confirmed to have these two days as Blackout days: Airtel, Aircel, Idea, Tata Docomo, Tata Indicom, Vodafone, BSNL.
