Till now, DTH users in India had to pick any one between the two, a HD set-top box (like that of Sun direct HD) or a Set-top box with DVR (digital video recorder). But with the advent of Reliance HD DVR, subscribers can now get the best of both worlds. HD Set-top box from Reliance Digital TV gives user to view stunning HD content in True HD resolution of 1080i and the DVR feature allows you to record programs.
The DVR will have 160GB of space allowing you to record up to 200 hours of videos. Other features like simultaneous recording and viewing of a different channel, play, pause, rewind are same as normal DVR that existed before.
This Reliance HD DVR is priced at Rs.5990. And if you are an existing Reliance DTH (BIG TV) subscriber, you’d get a discount of Rs.500.
Note: To experience content in HD, the content provider (channels) must create their programs in HD quality and you, as a receiver must have a HDTV. There are not many HD channels at present in India. Notable few channels that exist now are Discovery HD World and National Geographic HD.
ESPN STAR and SET MAX, the official broadcasters of the World Cup and IPL respectively, have already announced that the two Mega events will be available in HD.
If you are a DTH subscriber of another provider, there is no need to change your provider in search of HD content since your provider too may provide HD DVR’s very soon and especially considering that Reliance DTH is far from being the best DTH in India.
