Initial reaction after seeing the Ad
Wow, there could be no better Blackberry a la phone for this price and that too with Dual sim capabilities. I have all the social networks on my mobile to pass the time in class rooms without the headache of listening to lectures.
Go and buy the phone in a store
Amazing, I really can’t believe this is so light (at 95gms) and so thin (at 12.5mm) and yet packs all the features I need.
Use it for the first few days
I love this. Tweets ‘I’m tweeting from my new Micromax Q5 FB’ from classroom, plays with it all the day initially.
A month passed away
As always, the ‘new product excitement’ has decreased. Now thinks if there are any other applications that he can install in his phone. Searches the Internet and finds none. Same is the case when he tries to install any themes and games (see the reason why you can’t install any themes games applications on Micromax mobiles).

I m using Micromax Q5fb since last year.Its good mobile friends u can use every thing in this phone except adding themes. I m using opera mini 6, nimbuzz,facebook,ebuddy and lot of games in my phone including wallpapers and ringtones etc.
This phone supports Java j2me apps and always keep in mind that if u r downloading any apps or games it should be in (.Jar) file/format.

(2) u can save the java .jar games or software to memory card or phone by using uc browser,bolt browser.
(3) themes r not supported by q5
(4) use opera mini,uc browser it never gives u not enough memory.
(5) u can play wav,mid,amr,mp3,aac,m4a audio format on q5.

i know that everyone would be tried to connect nimbuzz but no one were done the same.
i was connected with nimbuzz and this was too hard to me.
nimbuzz is a messenger which sends message by using gmail, yahoo, orkut, msn etc.
so, don’t try to access this. it needs a high speed internet. (for your information i was connected with uninor gprs.) but you can install ebuddy, gtalk, facebook to chat with your friends. one more thing is that Rocketalk is most high speed messenger to chat use this and be connected with your friends.

this handset to any person,I did a big mistake by purchasing the phone ,On 24th april 2011 I purchased this model and after25 days there was some problem with the Receiver
now when I went to the service center they kept my cell for 10 days and the Issue was still there.The company is also not having any facilities for replacements Sorry to say very bad product.

Second thing is that, if ur mobile has been purchased in last year so that will gets update of opera mini else not. Because newest mobile of q5 has no system to get update by net. It has update option but will not accept.

micromax q5 does not support to flash player, live tv etc. Because it has no profile or connection settings to video player. And flash player is not made for it.

hey its a little problem put the pc suit cd in the drive open it now there will be a file name myse.c some thing like that open it now install usb driver within the folders the open the pc suit window go to setting change com port to 1 or 9 what ever is available and the open messages there will be a sign on the terminal window as download message from phone click it and it is done copy it cut it what ever u what to do

first u have to click on the usb driver folder which comes with pc suit and then click on the mfc icon if it installed it’s ok if not then through ur phone and take sony set’s for ultimate apps and functions and music also

u should first get getjar apps and then in getjar u can download bolt browser easily and i have bolt browser in my set it is very good app bcoz the same pages are displayed as in the system and facebook also

Use the CD and install the software and drivers given in the CD, On installing the same the PC suite will also get installed on your PC.
On double clicking the same the PC suite will open
Go to setting options
Simultaneously connect the phone using the USB cable to USB port (remember the PORT number) – on connecting the USB cable, 3 options will appear on the phone, select COM PORT option
PC suite – In setting option you will find the drop down menu of the port, select the port number to which the USB cable is connected
Select the dial up tab and enter the details like Name, APN, Number as per your service provider (For Airtel – Name = Airtel, APN= airtelgprs.com, Number ***99#*, keep the user name and passwork blank)
Click on create option
Go to the connection tab in the same window and select the dial up connection created, and press the dial button. It will get connected to the sever in 5 seconds.
You can use the web browser to use the internet.

1st of all micromax donot support flash player of any version!
one solution i found out is converting the file using EffectMatrix Total video converter and choose the phone model to blackberry 8xx series . It works fine for me. and also superb video and audio quality as compared to 3gp.

Q 5 is very nice. i was installed all of d java apps as i need from umnet.com.mobile 9.com and getjar.com.
nimbuzz 1.5.0 is running better than 1.7.2 .
only one drawback is v cant minimize java app more than one.

YOu cannot set the 3rd party message tones to your phone and also you cannot use ur cam in java apps
There were many defects for this phone, such as only one app can be minimized at a time, you cannot play the background song in audio player while using java app

you can use the browsers from the third party such as opera or bolt browser.
you can use Lplayer for 3gp and mp4 and kd player from netbabies.in to overcome videoplayer problem u mentioned and for track ball change sensitivity level after a week and for rising speaker volume u should go to setting- sound effect- eqilizer-edit and rise all leveles to high and save it u get full sound

It changes only the ‘extension’ of the file and it cannot be opend from phone, but can be opened by unlocking the file from the java app

First create a account on nimbuzz using web and there add your credentials for all chat clients(GTalk, ymsgr etc) that you want to access . Now you can use your nimbuzz userid/pwd to login in to the nimbuzz using your Q5b and it will work smoothly.

for connctng q5 2 pc : frst of all copy & paste q5 pc suite appl frm d cd provided wth d phone 2 anywhr on ur pc.this appl runs widout being instlld. then connect ur cel to any of d port in pc & clk com port.then see d port no. when d modem is instlld automtcly.then open q5 pc suite<settings<general & select d port no. on which ur cel is connctd.then clk on create connction.check it frm ur active gprs connctn settngs in ur cel. fill it,clk on new & then clk create.then go 2 dial up & clk on dialup.dats it
there is no antivirus available for Q5. this is because ur q5 wrks on j2me(java) for which it is impossible to create an antivirus module. antiviruses r available fr symbian & windows mobiles.

hi ashok,i dont think any video player will help.it depends on format spprtd by d phone.q5 supports upto 320*240 size(resolution) mp4 videos.u cant play mp4 videos above dis size on ur q5.mp4 videos r of many sizes-176*144,240*180,280*200,320*240 & more.320*240 fits full screen on q5 but it stops in between.240*180 mp4 also fits fullscreen & not stops in between.so i suuggest u 2 convert any mp4 not playing on ur phone into these suited formats by using a good video converter & then u can play them on ur q5

first and foremost rqrmnt while using nimbuzz/ebuddy/gtalk is that u must have an active gprs connection, also if thats not a prblm then u should go 2 java< nimbuzz/gtalk/ebuddy<options<network profile & then check 2 see which sim is selected. it can happen that u r using sim1 & sim2 is selected their as default.

go to profile and then to tones under it u would see some options that says empty when u click on that it will ask u to replace a tone and u can choose from either ur memory card or phone frm the music folder and change the ringtone.
sorry but dis is a fact dat sms tone of q5 can’t be changed by an manually uploaded tone. it only uses preloaded tones for sms tone.
u can not change your sms tone in Q5
its harsh but its a fact that micromax q5 does not support themes.so,better accept d fact that u cant apply themes 2 ur q5. and whats dis that u buy a phone only for themes, there are hundreds of other useful features in this phone then why bother by mere themes which is such a small thing. and if u buy dis phone only for themes then r u a fool not 2 enquire about dis phone before buying.

There is no site for download themes for micromax q5 mobile.This mobile is supported by Java ,so only .jar files support .You can download games 320×240 .jar files.Themes are made in .sis files and this type of files are not supported by this phone.

It can happen. Orkut uses a lot of Ajax that may not load properly on mobile phones.
Temporarily, you can try using the mobile version of Orkut by visiting ‘m.orkut.com’

m.orkut.com is not a WAP site but a regular html site optimized for mobile.

A WAP browser cannot handle a website coded in HTML properly. Where as Opera mini can open any website, HTML, XHTML, XML or WAP.
Q5 comes with Opera mini (I heard). If you don’t have it on your mobile, download it from Opera.com and install on your phone.

It might be possible that you have selected the option of “store and send”.And you have not enough memory to store msgs. in sent folder.So change the option to “send only” and then try…..may be it works…:)…

mithun,it seems that pdf reader is installed at 5th no. in d java list & opera5 is installed later but 5th is d icon for opera. so i suggst u 2 delete al sftwrs installed by u before opera so that ur opera gets d 5th place in d java list & then opera5 will be open by opera icon

dear mithun . u have just facing a normal problem. all u have to do to solve this problem is that when u open opera mini instead of clicking launch option u have to delete pdf function which u have installed then go to detail option until there is opera mini function isnt come u have to delete installed software once opera mini has come then u can launch opera mini successfully.

1)some .jar files are not suitable for d phone so it shows d msg unsupported midlet. make sure 2 dwnld 320*240 java format files frm authensized sites but even then few files can have d problems but not all. 2)with earphones d prblm of not changing fm channels is associated wth many phones including nokia so i advice u 2 use other earphones supporting this function as ur q5 has 3.5mm universal port for earphones. it will solve ur other problem as well

2> Not able to find the memo in Q5 (i am aware about Voice Memo)
3> When downloaded the .Jar files (games/software) and installed them it is giving error ‘Unsupported MIDlet’
4> While listening to FM radio using the Handsfree the channels are not getting changed through the handsfree and have to use the handset buttons only

hey i got d best way 2 write txt directly on opera mini 5 : open opera mini5 clk settings<turn on fullscreen edit & then u can directly write txt in mini5 by clicking
if ur qwerty pad is not working on any application then double clk ALT key & use ur number keys. also u can quickly scroll up/down on webpage by double clk ALT key & then by using key 2/8

is there a way to locked key pad with a password so that no one access my phone but me… I have been trying to download keypad security guard lock,,, I have tried from a couple of website and god knows why does it never come on my phone and always says not enuf memory when I have a 4gb memory card installed.. Can you please tell me how do i lock my key pad with password.. i have sent pretty good money in surfing net and my service provider robs in the name of surfing and downloading…
Which service provider? There are Internet Plans up to 2GB on Airtel or Aircel (with some limitations) for just Rs.98/month if you use your mobile that much for surfing.

Undoubtedly Airtel has the best plan for mobile surfing. Get 2GB of data for only Rs.98/month.
Coming back to your question, there are Utilities written in Java that will work as folder locks in mobile phones that will sure work in Nokia mobiles but there is no Guarantee that they will work on Micromax phones due to Non standard JRE followed by them.
On a satirical note, did you try using a wallpaper that says something like ‘Don’t touch my mobile you —–’ ?

hey! you know what? I tried downloading an sms lock folder on my phone but it says insufficient memory when I have installed a 4gb card… can u beat this? I wonder if the application is crazy or am I… though the phone is veryyyyy nice everything abot it is good. Though am not able to access Gtalk and more but am fine with it as far am able to do that on normal browser… but I really wish I could do something abt the keypad lock or atleast sms lock.. Is there a way u temme how?
u cant lock ur keypad with security.
u cant lock sms bt u can surely use private sms applications.
and for internet plan,
use docomo.
it offers 2 gb for 48 and 6 gb for 96.
and in case u r from mumbai,u can get 12gb for 100 bucks (1gb/mnth) along wid 277 mins of free talktime to tata nos every month for a year.
ofcourse docomo is the best for micromax for internet option !!

Micromax Q5 fb is a java enabled phone, so stop thinking about changing the stuff of your phone. Remember Q5 fb accepts the java apications only, before downloading any application make shure that the application is a java one. To know whether the application is a java or any other format, read the details of such applications. Every java application contains (.jar)
at the end.
So go and start finding the (.jar) files and enjoy.

I installed driver. i can see micromax modem in the list, still nothing. I manually added one more modem with a port but nothing.

just follow the steps>>>>
1.
connect the usb cable t your q5 and pc
2.a message is prompted on your q5 that usb connected
3.A menu will come up which have options of file transfer,webcam,and one more.
4.Just press ok on file transfer on your q5.
5.And you are done.
6.Open my computer and there you will have a drive of your memory card and phone memory.
7.Copy jar file in a folder of any drive.
8.Now disconnect your q5.
9.Open that folder in file manager of your q5.
10.click on the jar file.On the top of menu you have install option.Press ok.
11.All java midlets go in folder java.

you mixed 2 questions into one.
pc suit is required anyway to check the address book, download sms etc to pc. It do work and wonderfully. I got call from Micromax and the guy helped me to create connection and I was able to use it.

I am having problem with the NIMBUZZ and EBUDDY apps on Q5. Both these apps are not working. The error msg showing ” pl check the internet connection”. I then logged in to Ebuddy thru Opera Mini. Also the Gtalk is also not working, showing just logging-in. (Facebook is working fine)

If you are using the preinstalled midlet then you must download the updated version from the original websites……I can’t tell anything about nimbuzz because I had also same hardluck with that app…..

shortcut keys-This denotes a menu in which many features of phone can be accessed by only one button…this menu is available by pressing spacebar key…..and if you wanted to add items there go in menu>>settings>>phone settings>>shortcut keys>>and add from there……

i perches ed new Q5 fb micro max mobile before 20 day, When i record some videos are recorded and but not audio recorded, when audio is record it ok but not hear any voice ,
from system or other mobile all other video and audio are play in my mobile with very high volume when increase it,but not when i record any audio that not lesion voice,

Here is the solution for your problem—-
When recording a video use your earplug as your mic.
Because the sensitivity of earplug’s microphone is more and it can be possibly placed nearer to frame which you are recording.If you want to amplify the level of recorded sounds use total video converter. And get many apps and games for your q5 from here–

i bought q5 yesterday..it has nice features but some limitations too. You can’t install more than 15 apps or games otherwise it get restarted…

I don’t think that anybody except micromax engineers know that how to install themes….and I asked second question because in user manual pg.70 under section 7.9.5 it is written that it supports video in avi format…but in reality it doesn’t….

i. Activate GPRS in your heandset
ii. Go to Opera website
iii. Download Opera mini 4.2 .
Jaise he download per click karoge, opera download ho jayega aur install bhi ho jayega.

press the ‘ Aa ‘ of d right side once.

and the way u told me i.e. by pressing the ‘alt’ key twice worked for me, bt still its a difficult method..plus u cant erase what uve already typed!!

go to ur desired ringtone and click on option.
then click on ‘use as’.
then click on ‘user profiles’.
now go to profiles,
n u wil get ur selected ringtone in the list of ringtones.
select it and enjoy.

as u hav already installed dictionary,
u can edit words from ur qwerty by inbuilt editor, i.e by clicking on the word box.
if dictionary doesnt support inbuilt editing,
click on ‘alt’ twice and then edit with the help of numeric key.
numeric key means
2= a,b,c
3= d,e,f
etc
(like in case of any non qwert phone)

i tried installing a dictionary and some themes on my Q5 nothing worked.
The themes were all in .sis format which the q5 did not detect.
the MSDICT oxford dictionary got installed but u cant ‘type’ to search for words, i guess thats because its a qwerty phone!..
please suggest me on how to install themes/games etc and most importantly this ‘oxford dictionary’ on my Q5!

SIS format works only for devices with Symbian OS (Like Nokia and few Samsung phones).
Since Gopal says, you can install ‘anything’ on Q5 FB, he’s probably pointing at Java Apps (.jar or .jad format)

try using pics ofsize lesser than 50 kb.
or follow d simple procedure.
navigate to your desired pic.
go to option.
click on edit.
click on auto resize.
save your new pic.
and use it as a caller image.
