Pulled by the catchy ads, people are flocking to buy a HD TV along with HD DTH connection. Alright, they will enjoy their HD TV for about 4 months with the Cricket World Cup followed by DLF IPL. What next, is surely a thing to consider.
As we said before, HD content needs special production which most producers aren’t betting on yet.
For example, Sun Direct, which claims to be the DTH with highest number of HD channels in its Ads, only has the following HD channels (according to its website):
Tamil HD movies, Tamil HD Songs, Telugu HD Movies, Telugu HD Songs, Movies NOW, Discovery HD, National Geographic Channel HD and DD HD.
While Tata Sky on the other hand has the following HD feeds in its kitty:
Discovery HD World, National Geographic channel HD, Star Plus HD, Star Gold HD, Star Movies HD and Star World HD.
Note that there is no mention of SET MAX here since it is not a HD channel but it promises that the DLF IPL would be produced in HD quality.
So users who purchased a HD TV and a HD Set top box will only have the above channels in HD (remaining channels will be available too but the quality will be normal, as in normal TV/ STB).
If it were me, I would purchase HD TV and STB due to my love for Discovery channel, but unfortunately, it will not be of any use to my wife.
