Google transit Nav now in Hyderabad

As expected, the Google Transit service has arrived in two more major Indian cities, Hyderabad and Chennai. In partnership with APSRTC (Hyderabad region) and Chennai city bus services, Google has built a databse of all the transport buses to assist you with your travel. You can use Google Maps on the web or use the same service on your Google Maps for Mobile.

How to use the service is pretty self explanatory; Kapil Goswami of Google India has himself written his self-experienced how-to tutorial.

Although you can use this on web to get an idea about your travel route, this is much more fun, and most importantly, informational, when you use on your mobile. It’s is even more fun, when you turn on navigation where your position follows the bus through the routes (no voice unfortunately).

The service gives you many options, with various routes to choose from, sorted out with the least estimated travel time first. It also lets you know how frequently that bus service runs, how many stops you have to let go (with names) before you reach your destination etc.

In Hyderabad, only APSRTC services are made available through transit and it’d be more useful if MMTS too is added.
