If you thought there are already plenty of News Channels in AP, give some place for yet another Channel, called ‘Channel 4’, tag line ‘Face The Truth’. Although the Channel seems to be a ‘Telugu Satellite News Channel’, much of its attention seems to be on ‘English’ rather than ‘Telugu’. I just happened to see its early morning program called ‘Coffee Lounge’ and I have no idea why the two presenters ‘analyzing’ things happening around in ‘English’.
The key things Channel4 is stressing on, or at least is trying to, that differentiates it from other news channels is that:
- It isn’t affiliated to any Political Party
- It will not bow down to pressures from Political parties and
- People are its focal point.
The first two points actually make sense, if they are indeed true, since most News channels in AP are biased. Sakshi, NTV and TV5 on one side, ETV2, ABN and Studio N on the other side. And one clearly knows the agenda of ‘Raj news’. It’s only TV9 (eh? Of late, I can slightly see it turning its head against the Sakshi group) that is still standing on its feet not bending towards any side. There are two more news channels, albeit with very less market shares that are not biased, HMTV and i News.
It’s difficult for a new and small news channel to not be biased towards any group, that’s the reality. Let’s hope Channel4 remains on its words of transparency.
Oh, and if you can’t seem to find Channel4 in your TV even after tuning vigorously, you can watch live stream at their site.
Update: No; life it too short, it seems for Channel 4. Just 1 year after it launches it discards its website, packs its channel and goes into oblivion. If anyone want any additional information, there are still some videos on YouTube belonging to the channel.
