Book train tickets using SBI Debit card

If you are in possession of a State Bank Group ATM cum Debit card (Maestro card), you can do a whole lot more than just take money from the ATM. But note that unlike Master Card which needs to be verified using a Master Card Security code, you cannot verify your Maestro Card. Instead, you’ll be using your ATM card PIN number as a security code. One such implementation where you can use your PIN number to transact online using your State Bank ATM cum Debit card is while booking your train tickets at IRCTC.

IRCTC now provides a convenient option to book your Train tickets using State Bank ATM cum Debit card (Issued by SBI or its Associate Banks like SBH, SBM etc).

How to Book your ticket

Just proceed as you would normally do if you were booking through a credit card or Netbanking untill the selection of payment option comes (that is, login to your IRCTC account, choose your train, enter passenger details and birth preference if required and then click on Go and then in the next screen click on Make payment).

In the payment options, look for payments via ATM cum Debit card, then select State Bank ATM cum Debit card. You’ll be taken to an external page where you’ll be required to enter your Card number, expiration date (valid till mm/yy), Name and the PIN number of your ATM Debit card.

Enter all of them as you see on the card and then click Pay. After your transaction is successfully completed, you’ll be taken back to IRCTC website where you can download the e ticket (if this is the case) or just a receipt of your payment, if you chose i ticket.

Note: The external page is where you will enter your card PIN is encrypted and hence your PIN number will be safe.

Note: Since using an ATM cum Debit card is the same as using your Net Banking account associated with that card, it is recommended that you use Net banking instead of booking through ATM cum Debit card if you have Net banking enabled.
