Now, Book flight ticket via IRCTC

by Madhu on June 12, 2010

IRCTC, a hugely popular site in India known for its train ticket booking, now ventures in to Air ticket booking. From now on, users can book Air (flight) tickets using IRCTC website.

What’s more? To garner public attention, IRCTC currently offer 10% instant cash back on full fare for all Air tickets purchased using its website. That includes all air lines except Jet Airways and Jet lite.

Caveat here is that this offer is applicable only to Domestic services and the cashback amount is limited to Rs.500 per passenger.

IRCTC Air ticket booking review

The air ticket booking process on IRCTC looks to be much simpler than any other website, including the airline company’s websites themselves. There is no registration required, but just the passenger details and then you proceed to the payment system. You can either Pay by credit card or through Net Banking (Not many banks are present here though; I can’t see the country’s largest bank SBI in the list at this time).

The price difference in tickets

Consider this. I tried booking a flight from Hyderabad to Bangalore on June 12 by Kingfisher airlines (Kingfisher Red). The lowest price on that day, as usual, is for the early morning flight that takes off at 6AM.

The final price (without any insurance) for this flight on the Kingfisher website itself is shown as Rs.3204.

For the exact same flight, the price on IRCTC air ticketing site is shown as Rs.3459.56. With 10% cash back, I get Rs.345 discount which brings the ticket’s price to Rs.3114.

So its just a Rs.90 discount when compared to official ticket price of Rs.3205 set by Kingfisher. So it’s not entirely a 10% discount/cash back as said by IRCTC.

I observed this for another service flight by Indigo and it’s the same.

Just head over to air.irctc.co.in and see yourself or book a ticket.

The said cash back, will be made with in one day to the same account (credit card or Net banking) that was used while booking the ticket.

people becomes fool on such kinds of offer. I am also agreed with this comment. I had also booked a ticket from Delhi to Bagdogra on 18/5/2010 by GOAIR flight. IRCTC charged Rs 5949.12. Later, I received Rs 500/- cash back as an offer 10% cash back (maximum amount Rs 500.00). That means , actual price is Rs 5449.12 but on same flight the actual ticket price was Rs 5427.00. What I got from IRCTC ?

Later, this ticket was cancelled. and I’m still waiting for refund. Despite my several reminder, no action has been taken. AIR IRCTC brand is a cheater.
