The Round 1 of 2009’s Indian Readership survey is out and it presents some important developments and state of Newspapers and Magazine’s in this ever increasing ‘online news reading’ times.
Dainik Jagran, the distant leader in newspapers market in India saw a 2% decrease in its readership compared to round 2 survey of 2008. Among those that saw an increase in their subscriber base are Hindustan (Hindi), Lokmat, Ananda bazaar patrika, Rajasthan patrika, Times of India, Malayalam Manorama, Punya Nagari, Gujarat Samachar and Pudhari.

Dainik Bhaskar – 335.50 lakhs
Amar Ujala – 286.74 lakhs
Hindustan – 267.69 lakhs
Lokmat – 206.48 lakhs
Daily Thanthi – 204.56 lakhs
Dinakaran – 166.33 lakhs
Ananda Bazar patrika – 155.14 lakhs
Rajasthana patrika – 140.51 lakhs
Eenadu – 139.91 lakhs
When it comes to English dailies, Times of India still maintains its leadership. In fact the second largest English daily’s subscriber base is not even half of what Times of India has. Here is the list of Top 10 English dailies in India:

Hindustan times – 63.41 lakhs
The Hindu – 53.73 lakhs
The Telegraph – 28.18 lakhs
