TATA DOCOMO, Why pay for the Unused?

Wow I really liked that tag line and I really really like the name DOCOMO. Its characters resemble the creatures in a Game called Pacman that I used to play when I was a kid.

tata-docomo

I’ll call it DOCOMO rather than TATA DOCOMO. This new network which debuted in India recently is a joint venture of Tata Sons and DOCOMO Inc. which is based in Japan. It currently offers its service in Orissa, Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala but I’m sure they’ll take it to every corner of India.

So what does that tag line ‘Why pay for the unused’ mean?

I currently have Airtel network and to be frank I’m a huge fan of this service. Although their prices are slightly high compared to others, no other networks can match the network coverage that Airtel can offer. But when ever my talktime runs into single figures I keep an eye on the call time when ever I make a call to some one and I’d make sure that I end the call in the 55 seconds mark, for eg. 2 min 55 seconds. So that I use the entire 3 minute time and charged for 3 minutes. Had I talked for 2 min and 1 second, I still would have been charged for 3 minutes of usage. That’s because the calls are charged on a 60 seconds pulse rate.

Now with DOCOMO, I don’t need to keep and eye on the call time as I only pay for what I use. If I talk for 45 seconds, I’m only charged 45 paise and NOT 1 rupee. That’s cool.

As per their website (Which is cool too :D ) at present, they have a single plan and that is a life time validity plan which only costs Rs.49. So I can now take the Validity thing out of my mind and only recharge with talk time vouchers and the talk talk talk.

All local calls are charged at 1 paise per second and STD calls at 2 paise per second which comes out as 1.20 rupees/min (Which is still less by 30 paise compared to others). But there comes the added advantage of 1 second pulse call, you only pay for what you use. As a promotional offer, the STD calls are also being charged at 1 paise per second.

Just visit their website and look how cool it is. Come on DOCOMO, come to Hyderabad and I’ll be the first one to subscribe to your network. Sorry Airtel, It’s been great working with you for 5 years but you have to move on in life.

Hi, this is soumik from kolkata. I am going to share with you a worst customer service experience from TATA DOCOMO. 4 days ago i called to TATA docomo number for a postpaid connection. I also Write a mail to them. They had fixed an appointment with me on that day within 6 P.M. Nobody came to me on that day. Next day again i gave them a call and again they fixed an appointment with me within 5 P.M. Again nobody turned to me. Then i called them they told me lie that the executive is on his way but unfortunately nobody comes. I write a mail. They replied me that they tried to contact me but they cant contact me which is again a lie. The next day again i called they replied that this time they will come on the same day within 4 P.M. Nobody comes again. At last i had taken a postpaid connection from some other company. This is my experience with TATA DOCOMO. This is the customer service of a company while giving a connection so what will be there service after taking the connection. So my friend please be aware of taking a new connection from TATA DOCOMO

  5. Guys now that all service providers have started giving the similar offers i made a gud choice sticking on to Vodafone… i did a recharge of 50 and now i get same 1ps per sec plan for a year and eventually they will offer this service by default. cos i hav lifetime valditiy with vodafone with no recharge needed in every 3 or 6 months, seems like i’ve made a gud choice… then nowdays for 77 top up they give unlimited sms in local and std.. is there anyone to beat this offer? i dunno… need some updates from u guys who may have other networks…

  6. how is docomo in mumbai…[i hope its launched..]
is ther any network problem dat others r facin if u r in the suburbs[ like juhu,andheri...etc]
    pls reply

  7. gud question .. :) as the netwrk prblm of docomo seems to b solved n thats my personal experience..i m excited abt the animation contest..becz of the diwali twist the videos posted are rockin..happy 2 b a part of docomo..

  8. The worst ever n/w i have come across. I have used Aircel, BSNL, Airtel and Vodafone. This is the worst in terms of n/w and customer care. When u call to come one and in between it freaks and it displays connection error, network busy in between the call and it gets disconnected. Also when i face some issues they will say that we will take a complaint and take down the complaint no, also they will add that this issue will be resolved in so & so date and so & so time. After that nothing will happen. They will never ever come back with a resolution. If you again call them then they will say that we will take a complaint regarding this issue and if we ask what happened to the complaint that i have already logged in ? the answer is… sir since the resolution date is passed so we will take a new complaint and they will say the same thing…..

So its better not to go for now… if they improve all the issues then u can go for it….

    • Where do you stay Suresh?
I never experienced any network problems here in Hyderabad. Although that connection error occurred once when I tried to call the customer support.

  9. interesting ad of tata docomo..hope the diet sms will b a success just like there per second pluse concept..

  10. i want to no the std plan details

  11. when u talk for 59 sec, they need too charge to 59 paise, but DOCOMO will charge u with 61 paise!!! chk this out. that is if u talk for exact 1 min (60 sec) u are charged 62 paise, in this case other GSM services are good, since thry charge u only 60 paise

    • Is it? I never checked or in fact I never thought such things could happen. but how could you cut your call precisely at 59s? I stopped looking at the clock ever since I bough Docomo.

  12. guyz grow up…. dont jump to concluisions!!!
Docomo network sucks, just for few bucks u cant compromise on something that is unreliable. Sriraj (original post) dude fall in love with girls not mobile network,, sorry for u mate!!!

    • Ram, I’m too busy these days to even think about Girls.
Some body has asked me on another post whether he should opt for TATA DOCOMO or BSNL since the later has also started offering 1 second pulse.
I simply said, choose Tata Docomo if you live in a major city or else BSNL as the former cannot meet the network coverage of the later (at least for the time being).
Mr.Ram, if you live in a city like Chennai, Bangalore or Hyderabad, I cannot see any reason why shouldn’t opt for Docomo and sorry to say, I’m still in love with Docomo.

  13. i personally feel docomo helps me saving my balance..i too was in an impression that its jus a gimmick n docomo has solution to clear r doubt..thr website has a page its cald saving wall..the saving wall will let you knwo hw much you cn save from docomo n hw much you are actly spending..

  14. bah its not cheap if you’re talking about long duration phone calls. A Airtel prepaid phone(with the suitable talktime combo recharge) will cost you less comparatively. Who wants to blabber with 45seconds means 45paisa when people will obviously talk more than that

You pay 180paisa(1.8rs) for a three minute talk whereas with an airtel phone and talking to an airtel no, i pay just 60 paisa(recharged suitably). in the long run, tata docomo will cost you less but you’ll be suffering with network outrages and other tata problems :P . Roaming is the biggest advantage on this platform

    • There are so many instances when we just want to say something like ‘yes I’m coming to the movie’ (Keep text’s aside) which won’t take even 20 seconds. What in such cases?
Of course I do use Airtel, even now with a nice Dual SIM mobile and I admire Airtel for their quality of service more than any one.
I say Docomo is a revolution which will eventually see success in India.

  15. Nilesh K (SpIdY)

    i m tata docomo user.

    verry verry economical..
    1) per paisa charge, makes it highly economical.. never had such experience before
    2) daily, u get charged for the First 3 SMS.. then 100 sms are free.. yeppy.. what else dose a teenage needs..
sms charge = 60 paisa.. after 1.80rs.. no charge

amazing scheme tata has launched.. i recomended just leap towards it.. and more of its life time incoming free.. so just keep it if u dont want to use it… :D

i liked it verry much and much satisfied..

only 1 problem i found.. network works great outside.. but its bad when i go in under ground locations..

network is similarly [edited] like my older Airtel…. vodafone network is much better.. but remember.. tata Docomo is recently launched.. so they have a lot to improve in their networks..

they have to improve Network to compete with VodaFones strong network in Mumbai.. else they wont go ahed much .. i feel.. otherwise its a verry good choice

    • Did you find a small star mark over the line ‘Life time free incoming’?
It’s just not like ‘keep it if you dont want to use it’. You have to do a minimum recharge every 3 months (or is it 6months?) of Rs.180 to stay live.

  16. I have been using this connection for the past 20 days. The network is so horrible that I have to redial for at least a dozen times before I am connected. I hope it gets at least Ok(if not good) in the coming days.

  17. Hi guys, In my openion iam telling dont take docoo because , this tariff they are telling up to 3 months only after they dont know also what plan willl come. In STD case
“STD – First 27,000 seconds charged at 1 paisa per second in a month, beyond that 2 paisa per second in that month” you got it their marketing plans . so please guys dont take

  18. yeah, I agree to the first comment, It looks like that. I think now the sim is not available. I tried 5 shops and did not find it. where does the sim goes.?

  19. Hey i got TATA DOCOMO yesterday only,i feel happy to have it,as the Network and the Tariff is so good which you cant get with other Providers.I have written my Experience with TATA DOCOMO in my Blog.

  20. hey thr every1..another fan of docomo sining in..:)

  21. definetly i shift vodafone to docomo but i want to know when will it launch in hyderabad and what is its number series

  22. Man. Absolutely what I thought about docomo, I’m seeing here. Other networks should kearn from this. They simply charge 3RS if I talk for 2min 3 sec. DOCOMO Rocks. I’m shifting from Vodafone to DOCOMO.

  23. Same to same.. I’m also just waitng for this service to launch in Hyderabad and I’ll shift to it from Airtel. I wish the number portability is already there. But I’ll still shift to DOCOMO. Their website is too cool by the way
