Yep, we are riding that wave. After 1ps/sec , its ‘Unlimited calling’ wave now. While the big boys have stayed away from bringing these offers, the smaller kids have been playing with various packs, to attract (or retain) subscribers. Uninor, for example, has Rs.111 pack using which you can call any local Uninor mobile free for a month.
Similar plans from other networks are as follows:
Rs.498 monthly plan (prepaid): Free unlimited local calls other Aircel numbers only
Rs.147 monthly plan: 2.4 lakh seconds (or 4000 minutes; average of 133.33 minutes per day) free within local MTS network and 60000 free STD seconds (or 1000 minutes) with in MTS network.
Rs.1500 monthly plan: Free unlimited calls (local and STD) to all BSNL mobiles and Landlines or
Rs.725 monthly plan: Free unlimited local calls and 1500 free STD minutes to all BSNL mobiles and Landlines
Idea Cellular, which can be considered as one of the big boys of Indian Telecom players, also has similar plans (although not as generous as the kids). For Rs.75 monthly plan, you can talk unlimited to any 4 Local Idea numbers.
Reliance Communications, which is again a big boy, is a little more generous than Idea Cellular:
Rs.299 monthly plan: Free unlimited local calls with in Reliance + 20 free local minutes every day to other networks
Rs.599 monthly plan: Free unlimited local calls with in Reliance + 4000 STD minutes with in Reliance + free 30 minutes (local and STD) per day to other networks
Rs.799 monthly plan: Free unlimited local and STD calls with in Reliance + free 30 minutes (local and STD) per day to other networks.
Note: Its most likely that these will only be temporary plans until this wave of unlimited minutes subsides. So, if you are a subscriber of any of these telecom companies, it makes sense to check if these offers exists or not before you recharge.
If you have observed, most of the plans are actually very costly. So unless you have the need and you are spending more currently for something that you would get cheaply with any of these plans, I don’t think there’s any reason to spend so much for calling.
