Speed test between Airtel and BSNL Broadband

by Sai on April 1, 2010

It was BSNL that was delivering fast speeds for its Broadband users at low price, but it’s until Airtel revised its Broadband plans giving extremely high speed for low prices. When you look and compare both the prices, you might just question yourself, which is the Government run company and which is the private one?

For similar plans, however, BSNL has that slightest edge over Airtel in terms of speeds (but not in terms of price).

One good thing with BSNL, still, is that even for low range plans with a speed of 256kbps, it some times gives speeds of up to 2Mbps which is not the case with Airtel. If you are in a plan that gives 512 kbps of Speed in Airtel, you should in no way get a speed of over that limit. That limit however, is usually up to the ISP (Airtel) and the actual speed you get could be around 300-400kbps.

BSNL Speed test

You can check your BSNL broadband speed using various tools provided by the ISP’s them selves. I used to have a 256kbps plan with BSNL a year ago (now I am happily using Airtel Broadband), which at times gave me a speed of 1Mbps and that too in the day time.

If you have BSNL Broadband, you can check your speed by visiting any of the 3 links present here.

And if you are using Airtel, head here to test your speeds.

You can cross use the tools too, which means BSNL users can use the Airtel speed tester too (which is by far the better of the two) just to cross check if the speeds shown are similar or not. While checking please be sure that you are connected to the Internet through the cable wire directly and not through a WiFi network, which sometimes may give different (and wrong) figures

By the way, if you are looking to buy a BSNL 3G Sim card and wondering if there is 3G network in your area, visit this post on BSNL 3G Coverage.

Read carefully before buy, there must be hidden cost and limitations for data transfer.
