Search PAN by name
For this, you may visit Income Tax India e-filing page and go to Know your PAN section (under services).
In the fields provided, you can escape the first and Middle name and give your Surname (last name or Family name) and your date of birth. Type in the Security code and submit.
You’d then get your PAN number including your complete name (as you gave during your application), Date of birth and your jurisdiction (Circle or Ward and City, as per your declared income) as per the Income tax office records.
Employers can also use this method to verify the PAN numbers of their employees.
1.) Your data might not appear in the results page if you have very recently received your PAN.
2.) If you have your PAN but have not used it on any occasion, you will find your PAN as ‘Inactive’ in the search.
3.) As said before, you can use this tool to know your PAN number (or your family members), in case you somehow lost the card and don’t remember the number. This will be useful while re-applying for a new PAN card. If you reapply for PAN, you can mentioned your previous PAN to get a new PAN with same number (note: You should only have 1 active PAN at any time).
4.) Employers, who have small number of employees can use this tool to verify the PAN of their employers. In case its a large company and has many employees, you should instead use the Bulk PAN Query tool. You should put all PAN’s in XML format and upload in your e-filing account to verify the names.
