If you are a customer of State Bank of India (SBI), the largest bank in India, you can now do your banking from your mobile phone. All you have to do is download the appropriate application onto your mobile and register for mobile banking services.
Note: If you just want to know your account balance and transaction details, you can call the toll free number 1800 112 211 from any BSNL or MTNL number.
The mobile banking application is only required if you need complete banking services at your finger tips, like funds transfers, mini statements, paying your utility bills, top up your mobile, request cheque book etc.
How to register for SBI Mobile banking?
The registration process is the same for all State bank group banks, for example, State bank of Hyderabad’s SBH Explore mobile banking services. The process consists of two steps, one is getting the appropriate application for your mobile and two is activating your service.
Get your user ID and password (MPIN)
For these, you need to send an SMS as following, MBSREG Nokia xxxx to 567676, where xxxx is the model number of your Nokia device. Immediately after that you’ll receive an SMS giving your User ID and MPIN and a link to download the application. You can also download the application by visiting this page.
And then transfer it to your device using a USB device or over Bluetooth. Note that you’ll still need to send the SMS to get your login credentials.
The application is Java based and hence your mobile should be Java enabled to be able to run the application.
Mobile banking over WAP
In case your mobile doesn’t have Java enabled, you can still bank on your mobile using wap services. You simply have to visit this page from your mobile browser and login with your User ID and MPIN.
As soon as you login to your account, using either the application or through wap, you have to change your MPIN to something else (6 characters) that is hard to guess for others.
Activate your mobile banking services
Once you finished your installation process, you have to proceed with the activation process. This process can be done either by visiting your SBI branch or any SBI ATM nearby. If you wish to activate by visiting your branch, simply fill the form and your mobile banking service will be activated. The easier way is to visit any State bank ATM and activate the service yourself.
Activation through State Bank ATM
Insert your ATM/Debit card and choose services. Select Mobile banking and then choose Register. Enter your mobile number and again your mobile (to confirm). You’ll receive an SMS confirming your activation of services. And now you can do any banking stuff from your mobile phone.
As per the latest RBI instructions, you can perform transactions (funds transfer, bill payments, shopping etc) of up to Rs.50000 each day.
