If you are an ICICI Bank customer, or in fact have a credit or debit card of any bank you should have noticed that starting from August 1, 2009 to make any online transactions an additional password is required besides the card number and CVV number.
ICICI 3D secure password
Though many banks simply call that extra layer of security by default names as Verified by Visa, Master Card Security code, ICICI Bank calls the service combined as 3D secure service. So basically 3D secure service is nothing but your VbV password in case of Visa cards and SecureCode in case of Master Card.
If you have not registered for this service, its likely that you didn’t use your card since August 1st (Some cards may permit to register for VbV or SecureCode at the time of your first online purchase since August 7, 2009).
Register for 3D secure service
All you need to do is visit the respective banks’ website and then go to the Cards’ section and find the link to register for VbV or SecureCode, you’ll find it as 3D secure service in case of ICICI Bank.
Once you’re done with the registration, from the next time you use your card for any online transaction by entering your card number, name on the card, expiry date and CVV, you’ll be routed through an Industry standard encryption to a page (3D secure in case of ICICI) where you’ll need to enter the password you registered before.
Update: Now you can also register a 3D secure code for your ICICI Bank American Express credit card.
As said before, 3D secure password is both for credit and debit cards.
If you have not registered for 3D secure password and are doing a mobile transaction or transacting via an IVR, you will need to generate a one time password. You can also get this password by visiting the debit cards section of ICICI Bank.
You can see how you can get a State Bank 3D secure password, if you have any State Bank debit card.
