Paid excess tax than what you ought to and hence applied for a refund? Here’s some good new for you. You can now check your Income tax refund status online with the help of the National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL) Service.
Check Income tax refund status
All you have to do is visit https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/oltas/refundstatuslogin.html and enter your PAN number and select the assessment year. This service is currently only available to tax payers in Delhi in salary charges and a business charge and also in other centres like Patna, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai.
Note that Company refunds cannot be tracked.
Tax payers can choose to get their refund/rebate either through a cheque or request the Refund banker to deposit directly in their bank account using the Electronic Clearing Scheme.
State Bank of India will act as the banker in the whole refund process.
Note that you’ll only be eligible for a refund only if you had filed for it with in the stipulated time.
You can see your refund status only after about 10 days from the day SBI receives your amount from the Assessment officer/office.
In case where SBI/refund banker has not received your refund or if it was done with in this week, you’ll see the result as below:

In such cases, you can wait for about a week and try again.
Update: The delay between the refund application and the day you receive your refund can be as large as 3 months.

I submitted my Income Tax return on 25th March 2009 by mentioning that Rs.1284/- has to be refunded. The receipt number of the Acknowledgement from INCOME-TAX DEPARTMENT is 6344007873. And another on 23rd July 2009 by mentioning that Rs.4159/- has to be refunded. The receipt number of the Acknowledgement from INCOME-TAX DEPARTMENT is 6344001787.
It is nearing one year from the date I submitted my IT Return. Please deposit the refund amount in to my Savings Bank account at the earliest. My PAN Number is BWGP——.

I am a salaried employee. I submitted my Income Tax return on 23rd July 2009 by mentioning that Rs. 18,054/- has to be refunded. The receipt number of the Ackowledgement from INCOME-TAX DEPARTMENT is 2710000718.
I gave my Savings Bank Account Number as 093210—– and MICR Code as 600015012 in the IT Return. My bank is Canara Bank branch at Egmore.
It is nearing one year from the date I submitted my IT Return. Please deposit the refund amount in to my Savings Bank account at the earliest.
