If you use SBI Internet Banking account, you should always give top priority to its safety. But sometimes, even after taking all precautions, it may happen that our login credentials are stolen and your account is being misused by somebody else. In such cases, SBI gives you an option to ‘Lock User Access’. This feature stops the access to your account through Internet (as if you don’t have Internet Banking feature), just like blocking your credit or debit card in case it is stolen.
How to lock access?
To lock access to your Internet Banking account, visit this page and fill out all the required details, which include your Internet Banking Username, Account number, mobile number, Country and a security check. If the details entered by you are correct, your internet access will be instantly locked and a confirmation message will be sent to your registered mobile.
Before using the Lock access feature, you should know a couple of things:
If there are any scheduled transactions, such as fund transfers or bill payments, they will not be processed.
This will only affect your Internet Banking feature. Your bank account remains unaffected and you will still be able to use your bank account via the branch or through ATM/Debit card.
How to unlock user access?
Currently, unlocking user access is only possible through branch. So you would have to visit your home branch to unlock your Internet Banking access. Then you will have the option to reset username and password and start afresh.
This feature can also be used in cases where you leave for a long holiday tour and will not be using Internet Banking in all those days. If you think going to branch to unlock after your return from holidays is a trouble, then you should atleast enable High Security by getting SMS alerts in your account, so that even if anyone accesses your account, they cannot transfer any money out of your account without a confirmation password that would be sent to your mobile.
