Indian Railways has provided the facility of getting discounted tickets for students for their educational purposes and also for unemployed youth for their job purpose.
To avail the concession of being a student, on has to produce the Student concession form along with the purchased ticket (only i-ticket) to get discounted ticket.
The concession form of India Railways will be available at all Institutions where you’re studying (or in most cases it is a simple letter written on a paper to the Railway regional head with ‘Student concession application’ as the subject and the purpose as the body) which needs to be filled completely and signed by the head of your Institution must be presented at any nearest Railway reservation counter along with the i-ticket and normal Journey cum reservation ticket.
The difference between the Original journey cum reservation ticket price and the new revised fare for student concession (less Rs.20) will be refunded to the student.
Note that the Student concession can only be availed in Sleeper class and 2nd sitting (2S) I tickets.
You can get up to 50% discount as a student and SC/ST student up to 75%.
The reasons for travel could be a travel from his home town to his place of study or to appear for board exams in another town/city or Educational tours in groups.
Unemployed youth under the age of 35 years can get up to 100% discount on the basic fare of 2nd class in Express trains while attending an Interview of Central/State Govt companies.
For this, you need an attested copy of call letter of concerned company and a copy of application form submitted by the candidate while applying for that particular job.
