Since Chhattisgarh is carved out of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan is by far the largest state in India. But, its area doesn’t reflect in the number of constituencies it has, either for Vidhan Sabha or Lok Sabha. It’s understandable, since number of constituencies depend on the population and not the area of a place. Rajasthan, at present, has 25 Lok Sabha seats and 200 Vidhan sabha seats.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), working under the central Election commission presides over the elections in the state. From time to time, the state election body arranges programs to update the list of eligible voters, make corrections (if any) in voter ID cards of existing voters, providing new ID cards for transferred voters etc.
From last couple of General elections, it has been mandatory in India that voters use the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) to cast their vote. From the next General election, it will also be mandatory for all eligible voters to carry their EPIC’s to cast their vote. Although EPIC’s were available since last 2 General elections, the EC has been lenient in allowing voters to cast their vote with any of the approved ID’s in absence of EPIC. Not any more.
