These are the special SMS packs available for AP (Hyderabad) circle Airtel users (Recharge coupon values differ from circle to circle, so check out Airtel website to know the offers in your circle):
RC 7 – 25 local SMS for free
RC 11 – 50 local SMS for 15 days
RC 16 – 500 local Airtel SMS for free with 15 days validity
RC 26 – 150 GSM SMS free for 30 days
RC 36 – 400 local SMS pack with 15 days validity
RC 44 – 2100 local Airtel SMS free with 30 days validity
RC 49 – Unlimited Airtel SMS at 2ps and other at 11ps with 30 days validity
RC 70 – 7000 local Airtel SMS free.
Before you head out to make a recharge, a small caveat (or may not be? See update below)
Although there is no mention of Blackout days in Airtel’s website for AP circle, I suppose you cannot use discounted SMS packs on such days.
For the Mumbai circle and others, it is clearly mentioned that the ‘Discounted SMS rates will not be applicable on Blackout days’.
For 2009, these days are (from the month of August):
Friendship day – 2 August – No sms and voice discount rates
Dussehera – 28 September – No sms and voice discounts
Diwali – 17 October – No sms and voice discounts
New year eve – 31 December – No sms and voice discounts (Any way, even if you try to send an SMS on this day, it won’t reach the other side as the networks will be jammed full length)
For the year 2010, the blackout days are:
New year – January 1 – No sms discount rates (voice discount rates are applicable).
So, if you’re in AP, just try sending an SMS and see whether you are charged as per your discounted plan or not.
Update: Good news for Airtel customers (any circle) is that the discounted SMS and call rates WILL be applicable on New Years Eve, that is on December 31 (Not on January 1). Set up your ringing bells loud at 12pm on Dec 31 and stop sending SMS there after
