Olive’s trendy Netbooks and Mobiles

Olive-mobiles-india Here’s another brand to add to the list of ever growing mobile phone manufacturers in India, introducing Olive Telecommunications. But unlike other, Olive also forays into the manufacturing of Netbooks, they call them as Zipbooks. Olive has released their latest products in Delhi today which includes a Zipbook X107H and a mobile phone that only costs Rs.999 (Mobile phones start from Rs.999)

The Netbook X107H is powered by Qualcomm’s chipset, that you may find in most smart phones today, HTC WinMo mobiles for example. The Netbook has the capabilities of EV-DO that leverages the fast Broadband speed provided by various service providers in India. The Netbook has a 1.6GHz processor, 1GB DDR memory (RAM) and 160GB of Hard Disk storage, all that you need to access internet any times, any where.

At this point, Olive has made special partnerships with teleservices’ brands like Tata Teleservices, Bharti Airtel, MTS India and Virgin mobile. It has to be noted here that Olive is the Parent company of Haier Mobile which itself is into manufacturing mobile phones, with distribution in India too.

Also it has to be noticed that this netwook which has 3G capabilities is the first of its kind in the Indian Laptops’ market (Netbook or Notebook).

The Netbook absolutely look like toys with colors that makes me remember the trendy Samsung Corby. The price of these Netbooks at Rs.23000 could have been a bit lower considering that you’ll actually get a Netbook of say Acer or Asus at that price.

The other products of Olive include GSM handsets, GSM Modems, WCDMA handsets and Modems, CDMA handsets and fixed phones, EV-DO handsets, fixed phones and Modems.

  7. Dear sir

am IYANKANNU from chennai our company is computer sales & service & software sales then your company

  8. well written article sriraj. thanks for bringing this news to us. basically i saw the TV and newspaper ads and the product looks encouraging!! my point of view is that its 3G and thus you don’t have to buy a modem stick separately. so basically you save like almost 3500rs on that. Plus you get a 2 month free modem from tata photon. only a few companies are here that have 3g, but as far as i know their rates for internet are not good enough or affordable. enjoy the benefits from olive as long as it is there.

    • 3G itself is very distant, as far as August 2010 except for BSNL and MTNL. The zipbook has 3G but that 3G requires a compatible sim card. There you should also make sure that the mobile network with which you have a tie up offers 3G services at lower rates (competitive rates) to be successful. If you can do that, then yes, we can completely take away the broadband and modem stuff

      • Yup i agree with you on that. The problem with 3g is the fair usage policy that is in place. But then i think that has partly to do with the expensive cost of the 3g license and the cost of setting up the technical infrastructure to support the 3g. As soon as there are more adopters of the tecnology i do forsee the prices coming down(just like in broadband!!. But then my point is that it’s nice to know that manufacturers like Olive Telecom, dell , sony and i think msi (coming soon) are exploring this option of bundled 3g in the netbook. By the way. Also had a look at the Olive Mobile Phones. Liked the Olive V-g800 msgr. Looks so much like a blackberry but good value for Rs 2499. Anyways lets hope 3g picks up soon.
