Lenovo C300, all in one Desktop PC review

by Sriraj on October 23, 2009

We reviewed a lot of notebook and Mini’s previously (and in one instance got into a nice little conversation with the company staff about HCL ME laptops) but this one’s is completely new. In fact, this is the first all-in-one desktop PC that we are reviewing here at Sriraj.org and its the Lenovo C300.

By all in one desktop PC, we mean that there will be no external CPU box that you’ll see in normal desktops. All you’ll have is a LCD monitor, keyboard and a tiny little mouse. The CPU will be embedded at the back of the monitor saving the space and virtually giving you the feel of a laptop, by enabling you to place the keyboard on your laps and only look at the monitor (if the keyboard wire permits that is). A wireless keyboard could have been the even better some where in the line of the new iMac desktops from Apple.

Lenovo-c300In fact, as I’m writing this article, I feel the heat on my laps that my notebook is generating. There’ll be no such issues with the All in one desktop monitor. If you wish to carry it some where, you can easily do that as you only have a flat LCD monitor and a keyboard.

The LCD screen in C300 is a 20 inch long diagonally with a resolution of 1600×900, and has a Intel graphics media accelerator which means that it can play those high definition videos with ease. The monitor also has an in built 1.3 meg pixel camera.

It has an Intel Atom processor (1.60GHz) and one good thing Lenovo has done with this one is to give it a Windows XP OS instead of the power hungry Vista Home basic, which the desktops normally come with these days.

The drives include a DVD recordable and a USB, and when it comes to wireless networking, it supports LAN. The hard disk given is a 160GB (and a RAM if 1GB) one which is commonly seen with other desktops.

What we like the most in this one is its price tag. You get all these features at a mere Rs.26500.

Can this one run Windows 7?As Win XP is kinda old now and I’m sure one find day Microsoft will stop supporting XP.
