Dell Inspiron 1525 review : A cute little beauty (or a beast?)

by Sai on June 3, 2009

First things first, this is for those who are looking to buy a laptop in the price range of 30,000 to 40,000 INR (Approx 750 USD). Look no further, buy a Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop.

Dell Inspiron 15

I recently had a visit to one of my friends’ home who had an Inspiron. It was dazzling red in color which was very attractive to me as I got used to seeing my lame black colored Sony Vaio laptop every day. He said it was delievered within 7 days of booking online and was very happy seeing its performance. The price tag was 35,000 INR including the home delivery charges. He didn’t customize any thing and just bought it ‘as is’. It looked a fully loaded one boasting Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 3 GB SDRAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, a nice graphic card, High definition sound card, 8X DVD RW drive, Bluetooth, 1.3 mega pixel camera, a 7 in 1 card reader all packed with Vista home Basic OS.

Performance

The screen looked stunningly clear and was very pleasant to watch. I didn’t feel an inch of strain to my eyes even after 4 hours of continuous testing which included 2 hours of gaming session. It was not the case with my Vaio where I definitely needed a break after 2-3 hours. The built-in speakers were good enough at this price tag and even when the volume was increased to its max, it was very clear. Anyway, my friend already had a Bluetooth powered ear buds which made listening to music simpler and sweeter.

The 1.3 mega pixel camera was good enough to recognize my friends while chatting :D

Hey, you can’t expect a 12.1 MP Sony cyber shot camera to be included in a Laptop right?

When I asked him about what Anti virus he was using in his Lappy, he said AVG and he also said that he removed the McAfee Security Center which came in with the pack as a 30 day trail as it looked to be slowing down the performance.

He said he was very worried about the touch pad which according to some people (the reviews that he read before buying) isn’t the best by Dell. But he was very happy to use the Touchpad with ease and I too didn’t have any problem using it. Anyway, there is something called as a ‘mouse’ which is always present around the corner.

When asked if there was anything that could have been better, he said the ‘Battery charge‘. When fully charged, he said it lasts for about 5 hours which may be true as I played with it for 4 hours without any disruption and still the battery was going strong.

So all in all, a very good, in fact the best possible buy in the said price range.

Thanks to my friend Kevin who made this article possible and as promised, Kevin, I’ll have an Inspiron soon and probably write my next article using that little beauty.

Compare with HCL Leaptop Z39.

Hi Sriraj,
Read the review of ur friends inspiron 1525. i would like to know which site he ordered it.

sriraj

Are you asking from where he ordered?
Of course he ordered from the Official Dell India website

sriraj

Looking forward to see you Kevin.
I forgot to take pictures of your Laptop so that I can put it up here. Can you do that for me and send them to my mail or at least bring them when you come here?

Kevin

HEY Sriraj,
Nicely put up. I’ll soon visit your house too and have a look at your Vaio. I’m actually shocked when you said Vaio’s screen is not as good as Dell’s. Certainly,Sony commands more respect than Dell when it comes to Laptop’s, isn’t it?
And the battery ran out after about 40 mins when you left my home. So you can say 4.40 hrs as the battery life time when fully charged.
See you soon.
