Previously I posted an article on Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop that I came across in my friend’s house. Today I came across another laptop in the same price tag of Rs.35000 but this time, it’s from Compaq, compaq 610.
I was so impressed with the Inspiron’s performance and now lets see how this one fares. All laptops in this price range run with Windows Vista Home Basic OS and this one is no different. Almost every other technical specification is also similar to the Dell Inspiron 15.
It is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5870 at 2GHz which is slightly better than Inspiron 15. RAM of 2GB is provided and is expandable upto 4 GB. Hard disc is only 150GB where as Inspiron has 250GB default. The screen is 15.6 inches diagonally with 1366×768 as the resolution. The monitor has an LED backlit display with HD anti-glare with a Web-cam. However, Dell WLED screen has more clarity and more pixeled Webcam compared to Compaq 610.
This has an Intel 802.11 a/b/g network adaptor for Wi-Fi access which is also seen in Inspiron. The keyboard is a full keyboard (not THAT full keyboard with dedicated keys for numbers on the right) with touch pad and dedicated scroll zone in it for easy page navigation.
Even if you aren’t a big fan of Windows Vista OS, you can go for it since this satisfies all the requirements for a free Windows 7 upgrade, once the latter becomes available. Recent reports tell that Microsoft has already released the code of Windows 7 to the PC makers.
As seen with Dell’s products, this one too seems to be a bit on the heavier side compared to others. Compaq 610 weighs 2.49 Kgs, which is heavy enough for you to cause discomforts while travelling.
Compaq has made a deal with TATA Indicom and thus provides free TATA PHOTON USB for wireless Broadband access. However, this is only for a limited period. Contact HP dealer to find whether this offer still exists in case you wish to Buy Compaq 610.
The performance of both Compaq 610 and Dell Inspiron are almost Identical but I’d go for Compaq 610 for its free Give away of USB broadband, since every other thing is almost the same.
