From C9 Mobitop to C99 MobiTouch; here is a new Celkon mobile, C99, with Touch Screen. It’s again a Dual GSM Phone with 2.8 inch QVGA Touch panel. Even though it’s a touch screen phone, there are still some physical keys present under the screen for quick access to most used things, Call, Disconnect, Music and Camera, which is always good. Talking about Touch Screen, there is a Stylus (Pen like thing) present with which you can select icons on your screen. Presence of a Stylus also tells us that the screen is resistive but not capacitive. In layman’s words, you will not get the best response to your touches. You will have to infact push your finger/stylus a little deeper in to the screen to perform a certain action. There is a motion sensor present in front that may come into use, when you play certain games etc.
On the back, there is a 2MP Camera (degrade from Celkon C9, which as a 3.2 MP camera), but like C9, there is no flash to support the camera. Also, there is no Wifi which later versions of C9 have. Common features like Music player, Video player and playback, FM Radio are present. Since the screen is 2.8 inches, watching Videos could be brighter.
There is Bluetooth 2.1, USB Cable, GPRS/ EDGE for connectivity. The internal memory is enough to hold all the default apps and to add around 1000 contacts. External memory can be expanded up to 4GB using a MicroSD card (again a degrade from C9, which allows up to 16GB of external memory).
Last we checked, C99 was priced near Rs.4500 at one retailer. If this is strictly your budget, you may consider C99, or if you can bring down your purse’ weight even more, you may consider Nokia 5233 or Micromax A60 Android phones for around Rs.6000.
