Dell Inspiron and Studio Laptops online and telephonic booking process
With Dell promoting its products in India exclusively and intensely, the sales might have really seen an increase. Every day I wake up and see a news paper, I see a Dell ad ‘Yours is a star performer‘. Although the product description may be sufficient to initiate a sales process, the booking information is quite difficult to find from the advertisement. If you can see the small letters that appear below the advertisement, you can find that the Inspiron and Studio Laptops can be obtained on a delivery mode only. This means that one should book the laptop and then it’ll be delivered to his address.
There are 2 booking processes to obtain your star performer, online and a phone call. I find the second option to be the easiest and the safest mode. You can book online by visiting the dell website, choose the laptop, and place your order. Remember that your order is not finalized until a Dell representative calls you to confirm the order.
Alternatively, you can call the Dell toll free number 1800-425-4002 (India) and say which model you would like to buy to the Dell representative. He’ll then send a quotation to you with the final price (inclusive of all taxes and shipping costs) which you can verify and then proceed to make the payment. The payment can be made using your credit card. The Dell representative connects to a secured bank IVRS system to make your credit card payment. To make it easy to you, the representative may ask you to give your credit card number and expiry date which he inputs from his end. However, it’s only you who can input the card’s CVV number from your end (on your phone) to finalize the transaction. So the representative will not have access to your credit card in any way (To make any online transactions, CVV number is essential). If you are skeptical about giving your card number and expiry date, you may tell the representative that you’ll enter all information from your end itself.
Once the process is finished, it will take some time to finalize the transaction and you’ll get an email from Dell (or from the representative who made your transaction) within a maximum of 24 hours giving you the order number and customer number.
You may get another email asking you to confirm the order which you have to go through.
You can track your shipment status by logging onto the dell order status web page and entering your order number and customer number.
If you live in India and made the order in Rupees, it’s better to check the status directly in the BlueDart website itself (after 2-3 days) which gives more accurate data. Just select the reference number radio button and enter your order number preceded by 78.
For example if your order number is 34892348, you should enter 7834892348 in the reference column to track your shipment. Generally after 3 days, you should be able to see the expected delivery date in the BlueDart tracking system. If you live in India, you should be getting your Star performer with in 1 week. But in very rare cases it may take upto a maximum of 10 days.
