When I say that there is ‘another network’ adding to the long list of telecom operators in India, what is your initial thought? You’d probably say ‘Is there any void still left?’ (or did you just say ‘wtf’?). What ever you say, this won’t do any good to the Indian Telecom Industry if this ‘new entrant’ further pushes the rates to a new low.
As a consumer, you will surely enjoy the low rates but if you think of the Industry and the impact of it on the economy, it’s huge (in a negative way).
That new entrant is ‘Videocon’ which branded its telecom venture as ‘Videocon mobile services’ (GSM services). Yep, once a Home electronic appliances manufacture, later turning into mobile phones and now into telecom. Competition is always good but I seriously wish TRAI should set some guidelines (for the minimum rates), only with in which the operators could play with their tariff plans. When Tata Docomo was launched, I had no other thoughts in my mind other than that it would be a run away hit. A tiny little idea of ‘per second billing’ has shown the way for it. It was so revolutionary that other operators couldn’t wait any longer but introduce a similar plan in their network too. And then it became standard that any other new entrant from then had to follow, which Uninor did (but was it a success? I doubt).
And now its Videocon’s turn, that started its operations from Tamilnadu circle, including Chennai. At present I only have details of standard starter kit tariff:
The Sim costs Rs.49 with lifetime validity (Rs.200 worth recharge in needed once in 6 months to enjoy lifelong validity) with a talk time of Rs.5
All local calls cost Rs.1/min and STD at Rs.1.50/min.
Local SMS is Rs.1 per sms, National is Rs.1.50 per sms and International is Rs.5 per sms.
Although these are the basic rates, I’m pretty sure that Videocon has that per second billing tool in its armoury.
Remember that Videocon is sponsoring Mumbai Indian’s IPL team this year and you could well see the beginning of its Mobile services Ads this season (But I must say the ads of Videocon in other services such as the D2H and Mobile phones are pretty lame. They are so advanced and fast paced that my mother asked me what was that Ad about? Sigh)

This is a very bad plan i think good plan is 2sec 1paisa plan then get many users in to service
now customer have lot of choice,
as per market availability customer choose very flexy and cheap
low cost high usage,
so , if call size is very low, seconds pulse will be benifited and call size more ,then choose like tata pay per call ( 10 minutes 1 rupee ) will click in the market, these type of plans no company will be ready to project , if any company ready for these types of ideas so automatically customer runs towards that company
ex : plan1 :
if call size less than 25 seconds , call charges treated like 1 second/1 paisa
if call size upto 60 seconds then call charges 25 paisa
if call size more than 1 minutes , upto 5 minutes , then call charge 1/2 ruppee( 50 paisa)
if call size is more than 6 minutes , upto 10 minutes then call charges 1 ruppee ( 100 paisa)
nothing new. requiring stvs for per sec billing. Sure flop like mts n uninor. why wont these ppl lrn frm rlnce or docomo
I think videocon will be a flop like mts n uninor. Who ll switch to their network which has nothing new. Same old stvs
hi guys videocon is like IPL KingXI team, it will quit difficult to enter in semifinal, like this for videocon to Acquire the new customer, without any superb plan.
I think there are already too many players in the Mobile industry and there is lesser scope for new guys like Videocon when even giants like Airtel are facing tough competition with Reliance and Tata. Even Idea and uninor, were not able to make a huge impact. The issue is 10-digit mobile numbers are soon going to become extinct as every one is holding multiple sim’s due to various plans. This should be restricted by TRAI and is cousing problems for them. Mobile is only for communication and should not be misused.
8 series of numbers have already begun. If that too comes to an end in few years, then 7, 6 …… I guess?
Videocon should launch in Maharashtra first. They should take advantage of their Mumbai Indians sponsorship.
