You wrote ‘Rupees’, you wrote ‘Rs.’ and you wrote ‘Re.’. From now, you’ll have to write an all new Symbol to represent the ‘Rupee’, the Indian currency. Remember the open competition that was announced almost (well, more than) a year ago by the Ministry of Finance? It was a competition to design a Symbol for representing the Rupee that echoes India’s Culture and History. Following scores of applications, the Government has shortlisted 5 entries and the winner will be chosen today.
The 5 shortlisted symbols are shown in the image and one of them will soon be representing the Indian Rupee.
Personally, I like the last one (second in the bottom row) that’s looks like its Symbolizing lord Vinayaka (IMO) and is also some what easy to write on a paper compared to others. But you never know what our leaders choose until we have the final winner.
Selecting a Symbol is just the beginning of the story. Then think of the hectic tasks of taking on to the Computers keyboards. The Symbols for European EURO, Britain’s Pound, Japanese Yen are found a long ago but my keyboard doesn’t have any of them except the US Dollar.
Of course, you don’t need the Symbols to be on your keyboard to type them since you’ll have HTML codes such as € or € to make the (€) EURO Symbol. But then, you’ll still need to update the software’s and add the new numeric reference codes or entity reference code to be able to use numbers and entities that are already present in the keyboards to convert them to the new Rupee Symbol.
Until our leaders decide on which Symbol to select, you keep on practicing writing all the five Symbols as you’ll need it in the future

Yep, that’s looks like my choice too.
I also like the second one (2nd in top row). That looks like a Hindi ‘Ra’ and the gap between the two bars is looking like a gap for a river to flow, representing the Indian traditions.
